Ouellet clears waivers
Right wing Michel Ouellet cleared waivers and is free to be assigned to the minors, though that was not done immediately. Does that mean a trade is working?

DC, Thanks for the update! I hope they keep him at Norfolk if we can't find a trading partner.

IF Michel Ouellet starts the year in Norfolk before being traded or released. He will Dominate the time he is there.

I'd rather have Michel Ouellet on the team than Jason Ward or David Koci.

Wow ajax you seem to amaze me with the stupid stuff you come up with was it just me and my bro who thought that when the new salary cap system came out 3 years ago we should have gotten rid of one of the big three and certainly not Vinny and to tell you the truth as much as St.Louis is small he is so good and jells so well with Vinny, So both of us said that the most obvious choice was Richards because even though he has great talent he really doesnt have a spark or that fire that both St. Louis and Vinny bring the rink every night. Not to mention for God sakes he was the winner of the Lady Bing trophey presented to the player who best demonstrates sportsmanship and getelmanly behavior, this is hockey not golf or tennis! He would never really gety involved in scrums and use to just skate away. Im not saying go out there and kick some butt. You at least need to stand up for your teamates. That would have either left enough room to keep Khabibulin or get and oustanding FA in net and would have enough left over to get some point production back not all and richards trade value was at its max. hmm seems 3 years to late and didnt get what we could have got but we got a decent bit! Also that is awesome that Oulette cleared waivers we will dominate the AHL
Posted by: matthew | September 30, 2008 at 04:15 PM
A trade brewing?
Ha!
Over paid guys like him and Khabibulin are placed on waviers with the idea you send them to the minors and you lose the entire salary.
It is difficult to have rostered players see new guys with big huge paychecks bump them in salary and it creates unrest, so why would a team claim these guys and bring they overpaid guys in?
Posted by: WIZ | September 30, 2008 at 04:23 PM
Matthew, I'm not so sure about you guys dominating the AHL just because one guy cleared waivers.
Posted by: Steve R | September 30, 2008 at 04:33 PM
You guys are really that blind Im talking about Oulette dominating the ahl as a player not as a team! good god good night! As if you read my comment above wiz or can you not annotate what i say, I said that earlier 3 years ago when the salary cap was put in place this will be its 4th year I said that we should have gotten rid of one of the big three and I said it should have been richards. de te de!
Posted by: matthew | September 30, 2008 at 05:08 PM
Also I could so see a trade building if you involve Oulette with either craig or Halpren. We could easily get a good defensive defensman kinda like Sydor was back in the day and hopefully a veteran then all of a sudden you are talking about a team that can put points up and play somewhat defensive sound hockey watch out Eastern Confrence in my opinion the Lightning are only a piece or maybe two and thats streching it away from being right back up in the Cup Finals. If you trade Oulette and Halpren then who knows!
Posted by: matthew | September 30, 2008 at 05:15 PM
matthew, Halpern is damaged goods and if anyone wanted Oulette they could have claimed him off of waivers. You're going to have to offer up more than that to get a good d-man.
Posted by: Steve R | September 30, 2008 at 05:37 PM
Oh yes the same Halpren who had 42 points last year and Oulette who had 36 and was injured! oh yes no one would take a chance on that!
Posted by: matthew | September 30, 2008 at 05:55 PM
Oh by the way Oulette had 36 points in 64 games so that works out to a little over 50 percent so thats about 46 points so you mean to tell me you wouldnt take 2 40 point getters on your team for one not outstanding but decent veteran defensive defenseman! Esspecially a team like the leafs, islanders, Hurricanes, or Pheonix!
Posted by: matthew | September 30, 2008 at 06:08 PM
I wouldnt pay over a million dollars in today's cap world for 40 points. That's retarded. And the hardest thing to get in this league right now is defensive depth. You'd have to throw in some picks and a whole lotta pucks to have a team take on his salary AND get an NHL ready D man in return.
Posted by: what? | September 30, 2008 at 07:32 PM
Not really I think you can easily get a d man for those two notice how i said both of them! Well then if you pay a million for those guys a lot of Nhl teams must be retarted because thats what there getting!

Out of all the post here, I think I could follow about 2 of them. I can't understand the gibberish posted here unless I too have been drinking.
I would say a trade could be looming, only if there is a market for a sluggish skating defensmen and several other players bundled together with him. However, no one out there is in the market for mediocrity. So what does that tell you...a big name may be on the block? Who knows with this new bunch of wheeler-dealers! If they are really wanting to deal a big name who would it be? My guess is MSL's name hasn't been highlighted very much...could he be on the block, or is something else looming in the shadows like the Dan Boyle fisco.??

NTMM, You are over dramitizing this way more than required or called for. While I too would love a veteran d-man ( why didn't they sign Carney or invite him to camp as I mentioned in June? )our problems seem to be mainly centered on 2 guys, Hutchinson and Carle. Waive Hutch now, no yesterday. Get Smaby on the next plane to Prague. Meszaros has been a stud, way better than expected or advertised by Ottawa fans ( he's far better than Kuba and Pickard together from what I've seen so far ), Mihalik has been a pleasant surprise, though most of us who follow the Bolts close knew about his great season and +9 for a poor Norfolk squad last year. OB has been OB and while he hasn't shined yet this year, he could. Lundin has been solid, I wish he would learn to make a body check, but the fact is he's been solid defensively. Matt Carle has been a major disappointment, considering what we gave up. He passes the puck well and can help transition but he also gets stripped of the puck far too much. I'm not ready to give up on him, but he needs to play on the 3rd pairing. Hutch is totally worthless except as depth at Norfolk to fil in for the equally inept Carle in case of injury. Smaby on the other hand has shown that he can bring the physical game that all of our other d except Mez, OB and Mihalik lack. I'm guessing Niskala will be back in the lineup against the rangers, he's been good though frazzled at times.

ntmm,
"could he be on the block, or is something else looming in the shadows like the Dan Boyle fisco.??"
Fisco...?

He got caught in a compromising position in the Fisco bar. Pretty embarrassing to the team.

Oh yes marty is on the block get for real not the marlboro man or the marlboro man or whatever you want to call your self I mean easily he is staying if anything they might send Oulette, Halpren, Craig, Hutchinson and Ward somewhere else! These are guys on the trading block this year for the lightning this year. Dude where do you come up with this crap that marty will be traded!

It's the inherent nature of message boards, web logs, whatever...they seem a great idea at first, then imperceptibly and inexorably slide down a darkened funnel and drip out at the bottom in the realm of the lowest common denominator where trolls and gollums cavort, and gibberish outstrips insight and intelligence
It's the rest that keep the rest interested >:^D)
