Your new alternate captain -- Jeff Halpern

The Lightning made no announcement, but when center Jeff Halpern skated onto the ice for the opening faceoff Thursday against the Avalanche, he was wearing the A as an alternate captain. Defenseman Andrej Meszaros, who had been wearing the A, was not.

Not a huge surprise. Coach Rick Tocchet has been talking up how Halpern's return will be good for the locker room. Halpern, played his first game since May reconstructive surgery on his right knee.

thanks pd. i thought so.

Good for him and the team. He delivered last year when we picked up up. We go the better of the deal with Dallas.

NHL rule #14 one c and two a's, talkie
or 3 a's , no c.

i could be be wrong, but i thought you are permitted EITHER three "A"s or one "C" and two "A"s -basically 3 total players that are allowed to speak to officials when they are inside the arc at the scorer's table.

anyone know for sure?

Looks like buying the #11 jersey with the A on it last April wasn't such a bad idea after all, heheheh.

What I don't immediately understand, since league rules permit 3 A's, is why they felt compelled to strip the A off Meszaros. It's not exactly as if he were embarrassing himself out there excessively or anything. He's the team's lone shot from the point, and it doesn't have to be a slap shot, either. He gets it. And at 21 he's only going to get better.

Alternatively I wouldn't have a problem with Recchi wearing one

Hope the get-together at Shots went well...I'm sorry that I could not get there, rough day today and couldn't get down there...

Didn't get to see much of this one but did they refs blow the call?...Definitely, but the Bolts inability to score was the ultimate cause for yet another loss...

Congtatulations to Jeff. He has shown that he has been a leader out there on the ice. Glad to see that his scoring touch is still there from last year too!

First game since May and he already has a goal. Glad to hear they gave him the "A" and that he's doing good so far.

This guy is tough, he deserves it.

I did not think he would return, glad to be proved wrong. Wish him the best.
