Gary Roberts clears waivers
Unless the Lightning can work out a deal by the 3 p.m. trade deadline, Gary Roberts will not get a final shot at a second Stanley Cup title. The left wing, a 21-year veteran and perhaps a future Hall of Famer, cleared waivers at noon.

Kuba gets 11 mill? ...a BIG joke on the Ottawans...

Recci said some nice words on the way out. Got the news from Lenny.
Thanks Mark, it was fun to watch you play. 5 assists, that is some nice $hit.
Good luck!

Flasher and Geo - The other side of the coin is that the owners do not wear skates. We all agree that OK has made mistakes.
Players pointing to ownership and management for this season's failures on the ice is weak. And says as much about player attitude as it does rookie ownership. More piling on by Recci in an interview this morning.
Either of these rentals had no trade clauses, so to imply that they would be more in the process with another team is just more piling on the scapegoat. IMO

Flasher - read the SPT - it is there too.
"All things being equal, Gary Roberts said, he would have liked to have been told before he was put on waivers that it was going to happen."
"That could have been handled differently," the Lightning left wing said. "But I understand at this time of year, they have a lot of guys to worry about, and things happen in a hurry."
Don't know why it was taken out of the original article. I have seen him quoted in several places as saying this happened. Think OK is just trying to run interferance again.

Matt- If that's the worst I get on CS Dr, great. Try walking past MSG in a Bolts jersey AFTER the game.

It's nice to see that my team is not paying Kuba 11.1 million. All the better that it's one of the teams in snobsville.

Boltflasher- believe it or not, some teams do try to help eachother out. You'll rarely see it within conferences though. It usually stems from the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" thought. It's most obvious with rental players, pick trading on draft day (IE- Sedin twins), and of course everyone's favorite- "future considerations".
And as far as trading Vinny over Malone: Vinny would pull in a truckload of help singlehandedly in a trade. Malone, not-so-much as he's only good on the ice, and not on a billboard getting fans in the seats. Malone's more valuable to the play than Vinny when it comes to worth on the trade market.

Geo, that info you posted about not informing Roberts was pulled from your source that you posted...it may not be valid..

At least Recchi found out from Barrie (per his interview on TSN) that he had been traded. Amazing that they can manage to get the news to the player on the one day it is a given that they may not know first but can't tell a player he has been waived. Go figure!

Good luck in Boston Rex - hope you take them all the way to the finals!!

Jokinen cleared waivers previously and was then traded. Roberts will be traded today.

So that's the reason Gary Roberts wasn't picked up...had nothing to do with Roberts, but was because there is a GM vendetta against the Bolts GM...yeah, makes sense...

Like he will play another game Flasher.
Not likely.

You are safe on Malone Jim.
Right about other GM's and Tampa/

I think people should spit on you every time you walk down Channel Side Dr.

What team is going to help another "move bodies"?...
Posted by: Boltflasher | March 04, 2009 at 01:02 PM
They waived Roberts to give him a chance to be picked up by another team and no one did....I'm sorry for him. But he can close it out now as a Bolt...

I rarely blame ownership but it's in these types of situations it's obvious where to place blame. Barrie & OK have alienated virtually every other club in this league and it's no wonder why no other teams help when the Bolts try to move bodies.
I don't believe for a second anyone has called Tampa with a bona fide offer since October. These guys are playing with themselves on the playground and its hurting people like Roberts.
And if this team trades Malone, they should be spit on every time they walk down Channelside. I'd rather see Vinny traded for long-term help than lose Malone.
