Tampa Bay Lightning's Marty St. Louis named finalist for Lady Byng award

Is this the year that Tampa Bay Lightning right winger Martin St. Louis reverses the outcome of the Lady Byng voting the past two seasons and unseats Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk, who is seeking his fourth straight Lady Byng?

Lightning winger Martin St. Louis chose not to wear a full face cage for the first time since college against Montreal. He wore it in practice.

St. Louis was struck in the chin with a puck during practice yesterday and required seven stitches to close a nasty gash he said hurt far worse than the face gash he incurred a few weeks ago.

St. Louis looked as if he'd had a golf ball surgically inserted into his lip on Tuesday, and large and inviting target for any ill-intentioned defenseman.

Martin St. Louis leaves ice bleeding at practice

Martin St. Louis' scar collection just got more impressive. The veteran winger, who sustained a nasty slice to his forehead and nose last week at Ottawa when he fell on a tumbled official's skate blade, was just struck in the lip by a puck during morning practice at St. Pete Times Forum. St. Louis charged off the ice bleeding, followed by training staff, and the sound of stick on trash cans and walls could be heard behind him.

UPDATE: Lightning interim coach Rick Tocchet, whose mug is a bit of a war zone, too, bearing the marks of a career as a rugged player, said St. Louis needed a few stitches and will be fine for tomorrow night's game against Montreal.

Tocchet joked that eating dinner might not be so pleasant for St. Louis tonight, though. Pass the yogurt.
