Now it Can Be Told: Cheney Would Rather Spread Democracy Than Practice It
Jon Stewart said it best on The Daily Show, when he lampooned Dick Cheney as a "dealer, not a user" of democracy. But it is interesting to see how the Bush administration is dropping many of its past pretenses as its lame duck status advances.
In this interview, with ABC News' Martha Raddatz, Cheney admits he couldn't care less about the nation's opinion of his five-years-and-counting war...

I'm not a big fan of the way this war has been managed, but you seem to be suggesting that they should not do what they think is correct, but what the current polls say. They were elected to govern & they are governing the way they see fit. To try to govern according to the current mood of the country, as measured by easily manipulated polls, is no way to run a railroad.

every political leader has to think long and hard about making choices that are counter to the will of the people to serve a greater good. I would never support the idea that leaders should govern according to the pulbic's latest whim.
But disregarding the will of the people should be a serious step taken with a lot of deliberation and respect for the nation's will.
Shrugging off people's concerns about a 5-year-war that has cost trillions of dollars and 4,000 lives -- like it's an opinion poll about who will win american idol -- that is cavalier and dismissive to a disturbing degree.
