Embarrassing Sarah Palin: the National Edition
I thought my post about new GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin looking like Tina Fey was borderline
disrespectful -- but that seems to be nothing next to the stuff unearthed by my fellow bloggers and political journalists regarding the second woman ever to run for vice president through a major party.
First, I stumbled on the first of many MILF references, courtesy of pal Wayne Garcia's blog at Creative Loafing, whose Palin post was titled, simply, MccCain Picks a MILF. By the end of the day, YouTube had several videos calling her a VPILF. No matter how accurate -- and, okay, it is accurate -- is that a way to refer to our potential first female vice president?
Then Huffington Post dug up this photo of Palin from her college days -- supposedly provided by her family?? (Thanks mom!)
Headlined as a "busty" photo of a young Palin, this photo proves two things: some folks' attractiveness blossoms late in life, and prospective politicians should stay away from cameras in college.
Finally, the old Alaska station where Palin once served as a sportscaster, KTVA, dug up this video of her delivering a sports report from the old days.
You'd think former colleagues might show a bit more restraint. But even they, it seems, couldn't believe that somebody who used to give high school football scores might wind up a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Here's another look at Palin's sportscasting skills, quickly followed by her appearance on Craig Ferguson's show last year, as an unknown local pol handing the Scottish comic an honorary citizenship.

A, the T-shirt says something to the effect of "I may be broke, but I'm not flat-busted" which is a play on her bust SIZE, which is why she was called BUSTY.
Billy, have you ever seen an op-ed page? Journalists are blessed with the ability to be unbiased when called upon, but they aren't lobotomized of their opinions in journalism school.

I think her stances on many core issues are embarrassing enough ... I don't think she needs any help from old tape or photos.

You say "it's an opinion blog"...well, yes but I'm confused. Your reporting in the Times appears to follow the "objective journalist" slant. I've seen you cover serious stories, with no personal opinion attached. But then you can come to a blog owned by the Times, and give a (sometimes very) slanted opinion? I really don't think it helps your reputation to have it both ways.
The real media story you are missing is the unrelenting pro-Obama bias of the MSM. Did you see 60 Minutes tonight? Putting politics totally aside, can you really say that was in any way an objective interview?? Kroft posing a question to Obama that Palin has less experience than him as it were fact. One has true executive experience and the other voted present over 100 times.

Really, I'm not sure if I understand that you think she looks ugly or fat or just the people at the Huffington Post. I mean really, it's a college snapshot. And at that a rather mundane, commonplace one. Busty? I see a boxy T-shirt that everyone wore at that time (styles do change, you know) and she certainly doesn't appear to be overweight. Or busty. Actually, it would appear that she is actually holding the tee out to display the message on it (which I can't make out in the photo). I don't know what you/people in general consider unattractive, but I'm not seeing it. I have to say that if she's all that hideous in that photo, there are going to be a lot of young girls out there feeling pretty insecure about their looks. Geesh!
By the way, I can't see where saying someone looks like Tina Fey is disrespectful -- unless she is also considered to be an eyesore.
Sorry. I get worked up about someone's looks being the best way to judge them. What on earth does that have to do with anything? Of course, if she actually were ugly or fat -- well...

That 'in the tank' stuff is so two months ago, my friend....
you must not have been reading this blog much, so i'll catch you up.
it's an opinion blog, which means I'll be expressing my opinion about things quite a bit. I've already said in many posts here that i am: a liberal, a registered Democrat and a Obama supporter.
So that's the landscape here, friend. as far as the point of the post -- it was a cheeky way of pointing out the amazing amount of borderline insulting stuff disseminated out there about Palin in the space of three days.

I realize that you, along with most of the media, are in the tank for Obama, but is their supposed to be a point to this post?
