When you lose Opie, Matlock and the Fonz, can you win the White House?
GOP presidential candidate John McCain may have Joe the Plumber and the misguided volunteer who carved a "B" into her cheek, but Barack Obama has Opie, Richie Cunningham, Andy Taylor and the Fonz pulling the lever for him.
Ron Howard actually makes a compelling, earnest plea for Obama, as a guy who says he has voted for candidates from all sides of political spectrunm. When I heard about this clip, I was hesistant to put it on the blog -- the last Funny or Die bit I embedded automatically played every time you loaded the page.
But I was so taken by Howard's earnestness, that I decided to give this a shot. Check out Howard's inspired take on how Opie, Richie, andy and the Fonz might endorse Obama -- if they were flesh and blood folks.

Why is so much emphasis placed on the opinions of Hollywood folks?
No one is a bigger fan of the Andy Griffith show than I am. but their political opinions don't mean anything to me.

If we are down to arguing that a candidate's computer-proficiency is a litmus test of their credentials to be President, we need new candidates at least.
Maybe smarter voters would be even better.

A pretty one sided comment. You would have us believe that Obama doesn't have some nut jobs out there in the weeds. Tell us about the Democratic hackers of Palin's e-mail, for example. Just two nights ago one Tampa station videos of people stealing lawn signs of McCain supporters was aired. The Obamaheads on the Internet have launched a totally over the top Internet smear campaign against McCain and Palin.
Ronnie Howard's video for the Internet, was well done. It should be considering all the professional awards he has garnered. I don't doubt his sincerity. I just philosophically disagree with him.

Eric,
Funny or Die has removed the "autoplay=true" parameter from their embed code, so their videos will no longer play on your site unless you click on them. Of course, if you *want* them to autoplay, you can always insert "autoplay=true" -- or perhaps "autoplay=1" or perhaps &autoplay="true" or &autoplay="1" depending on the exact player code they use.
(BTW, if a video you want to embed DOES have that option and is autoplaying, change "true" to "false" or "1" to "0" and it won't.)
(You can also change the embed dimensions as long as you do it proportionately; that is, multiply both width and height by 1.25 or .8 or whatever...)
And now you know more about customizing Flash video players than both major Presidential candidates and both of their veep picks put together.
Next lesson: how to create a financial meltdown by using bogus software parameters to calculate the value of securitized home mortgage "bundles."
Lesson three: how to use fancy-looking spreadsheets to prove that derivatives and other market hedges are perfectly safe and a valuable part of our financial system even though the concept behind them is total BS.
I could go on...
At least Obama has *staffers* who are totally computer-hip even if he isn't, while there is no evidence that McCain and his staff have the slightest idea about why software patents and DRM are evil. And Obama is in favor of Net Neutrality, while John McCain is against it, which has GOT to tell you something, including (to get back on topic) one of the reasons Ron, Andy and Henry are not McCain fans.
