Kathy Griffin drops the d-word during CNN's New Year's Eve coverage

CNN must have known it was tempting fate by giving comic Kathy Griffin a live microphone during itsKathygriffinmic_3 New Year's Eve special.

This is the woman who exclaimed Jesus could "suck it" when she won an Emmy award. The woman who predicted Miley Cyrus would get a "down-there virus" when hosting Bravo's A-List awards. The woman who actually thought she would still film a guest star role on Cyrus' Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana after the first joke made worldwide headlines.

In other words, the kind of take-no-$#@& comedian who would see a party with lots of alcohol-fueled knuckleheads, bitter cold and the pressure of entertaining an international audience as a minefield of possibility.

So it's no surprise the redheaded wonder let a serious profanity slip while dressing down a heckler when she thought the show had cut to commercial.

Doesn't Griffin know that stuff like this always ends up on YouTube -- one way or another? (come to think about it, I bet she's counting on it!)

>>>But I doubt any kids were watching.<<<

with the possibly expecption of the west coast or even hawaii.

Hang on a second here. Kathy G tells the Lord to "suck it" then accuses some Times Square heckler of being a fellatio pro? She's got a thing about phalluses, don't she? I predict she's heading the way of Brett Butler very, very soon. Bet CNN doesn't bring back a comic next year.

Pam

It really is NOT that big of a deal IMO. Not smart, necessarily, she should be more aware. But I doubt any kids were watching. And besides, Comedy Central liberally allows the n word like it's the word "the". I never hear about THAT being called offensive, although it obviously is....

RagsTTiger

Kathy Griffin is a second rate comedian and a third rate person for such unprofessional behavior.

I didn't think it as all that shocking for the reasons already stated. Plus it was on cable at midnight.

But I did find Anderson's "oh honey" the bigger laugh.

Who cares? The jerk was asking for it. And who watches CNN for a New Years Eve countdown? At least she didn't use the c word ala Jane Fonda on morning TV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3qXUFyzrjM

david

This is the self-proclaimed D-lister's schtick. The more shocking she is, the more YouTube time she gets. Everyone know's who she is, and she has a nicer house than you or I ever will. She is a very smart lady!

it's one thing to hurl the d-word at a heckler on live tv. you hear much worse on sports broadcats. it's quite another to use the word in a very graphic manner.

that said, i thought it was hysterical!

Michael Rivers

I don't see why this should be shocking. Granted, I don't offend easily and I'm a Kathy fan. But, this is not why I say it shouldn't be shocking. Has anyone watched TV lately? The words that are allowed on shows like "Saving Grace." Add to that the visual images on shows like CSI. And we are worked up about the "D" word being said on CNN?

JC

I don't even know why Kathy Griffin is around. She's not funny and not particularly talented. Someone with those drawbacks will always go for the filth and flash. I am not surprised.
