ABC News runs Lou Pearlman scam story
Those of you who have been waiting for the national media to pay attention to this scam should be pleased to see that ABC news picked up the story. However, it appeared only on the Web site and was not broadcast.
The Huffington Post, an influential blog, also has taken note.

St. Petersburg Times personal finance editor Helen Huntley writes about money topics and answers questions about financial planning, investments and personal income taxes.
I have talked to people that still won't tell family of their loss fearing their family members will suffer health problems as a result. The sufferring this has caused is profound. Now we are all in a legal quagmire that will affect our health as well. Awful.

Helen's 11:59 post:
That was really a very good post. I keep telling my 71-year-old mom the same thing (she lost her life savings; I lost my son's college fund) and it does make a difference. She'll get very depressed and extremely worried, but just a little positive spin helps sometimes.
Thanks, Helen.

I recommend filing claims in both cases. It's fine to wait until after the creditor's meeting as long as the court has your paperwork by the July 30 deadline.

I'll be there at the meeting. I'm interested to ask if anyone is filing a "Proof of Claim" on either Pearlman and Trans-Con or both? Or filing your claim after the creditors meeting or a new one as a possible amendment after the crediotrs meeting? Just asking, I will probably file against both!

11:31 am, come to the creditors meeting April 30 in Orlando.

The news reports are now giving the impression Pearlman is a fugitive. But the US DOJ has not indicted him, so it could be misleading. In fact, no state or federal agency has issued a warrant for his arrest, and the investigation is still ongoing. Not that there is any lack of information or evidence to indict him, of course. Federal agencies move rather slowly, as do the wheels of justice.
Germany, the last place where he was sighted, does not protect foreigners. He would have to move if he has not already. Does anyone know if Pearlman has moved to Iran?

A tragedy like this one should make us all stop and reflect. Life is a gift and we can't take it for granted. It is important that whatever is wrong in our lives doesn't overwhelm our appreciation for the gift that we have to be alive and with those we love. However, standing up for your rights and striving to make your life better is not greed. Nor is it incompatible with an appreciation for life.

To the person who made the last post:
And thousands are getting massacred in Darfur and life really sucks for many people around the world - but lives have also been ruined by this scam. If you don't see that, just go away and keep your self righteousness to yourself.

I can’t believe we are in the middle of the worst massacre in US history with 33 people killed and you are all crying about losing some money.
You are just as greedy as Lou and company. Shame on you!!!

Seems Fatboy has made Fox News now.

I love this line..."If only Lou Pearlman could party again like it was 1999. The fat, frenzied manager of insipid boy bands was on top of the world then..."
You know what the problem is? All these stories about Fatboy are considered Entertainment news and not business news or important news. The perception needs to change that this is all some celebrity gossip thing.
Drudge needs to pick up on one of these stories again.

Huffington Post may be an influential blog but they have more than their share of idiots wasting space. Some of the comments are too mean spirited for words. People can be so cruel.

Yes he is the worst sort of person, so was everyone around him, from the takers running for office to the cronies lining their pockets with ill gotten goods. He will take the cowards way out most likely, as he has done so far at every step of his pathetic life.

To Pearlman, I hate what you did to my family. My dad has sufferered a nervous breakdown and is now in the hospital. My sister is on medication and has been in the hospital for attempted suicide 2 times. I can't work any more because all I think about is how you lied to us over the many years with your fat face, telling us lies upon lies of course after you greeted us with your famous phony hug.I can't pay my mortgage because I have no money left, and will now be homeless. Life is over for me and my family. To those who think we should have known better and not invest with Pearlman, well if you were shown financial stuff showing that every think was rosey maybe you would have invested too. Pearlman everyone hates you and hope when you meet your maker you suffer for your crime big time. You are the worst kind of person,at least a street mugger rips you off and the victim knows it.

It was very nice they picked it up finally, however it gives the idea that the losses were the fault of the investors even though the banks were losers also. It is better than nothing certainly, but we hope the real story gets out in time regards all the various agencies looking at Pearlman over the years, that let him slide because of his stature and influence at the time. That is the real story.
