A Times reader's "Ode to Pearlman's Duplicity"
The Times' stories about Lou Pearlman prompted reader and regular letter writer Robert B. Fleming to write this letter and accompanying poem, which were published in today's business letters section.
An ode to Pearlman's duplicity
Lou Pearlman is a flat-out fraudster and shameless bilker. His scam tactics were incredible. This man led a lavish lifestyle while he cheated people, thus there is righteous rancor rampant. With all the subplots and twists to the Pearlman drama, I am not surprised that a movie is being made and a book written about him. They could almost make a TV soap opera out of his antics and chicanery. I'll even contribute a Pearlman portrait to the expose saga:
Canceling civilized rules,
Out to make investors his tools,
Regarding them as utter fools.
Rogue breaker of trust,
Unfeeling and unjust,
Pearlman's brazen greed
Telegraphs his evil creed.
Robert B. Fleming, St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg Times personal finance editor Helen Huntley writes about money topics and answers questions about financial planning, investments and personal income taxes.

Any word when Pearlman will take his company public? He probably will say that it needs to be delayed becuase of a possible recession.

no high yields? LJP's interest was always a few points above the going rate at legitimate financial institutions ... even a point over the national average should be investigated prior to investing. i'm not trying to be mean, but as i stated before, the people who lost their money should have been more careful and therefore deserve the sad, and i do feel for the people who were robbed, but inevitable outcome of this fiasco.
and i do believe LJP will not spend much time in prison ... the system doesn't work that way. he'll be out within a year ... maybe two.

Jeff, maybe you do not vote, and maybe your an honest man, but I am sure you are not aware of "what you think you said". The word Con is derived from the word confidence, so if you trust anyone you can be conned.Think about it, but not too hard as it may give you a headache.

There is an interesting old proverb
You can't con an honest man

6:21 you have no clue. First off their where no high yields that is why it didn't stand out and second off, how could you say anyone deserves to have their lives ruined by the jerk. You are no better than he is. I hate to tell you this, he will not just get a slap on the wrist, that is why he is still sitting in jail.

i'm 6:21.
i stated what i honestly felt about the LJP fiasco and those who were ripped-off. sorry about offending, but i truly feel those who were deceived had it coming to them. to believe the unbelievable, such as abnormally high yields on CDs, bonds etc., you are going to get burnt and this is what happened. therefore those who lost their money deserve it. i would never hand my hard-earned money over to anyone without first investigating whether it was legit or not.
as far as not listing my name, who cares, i am not a LJP crony, just a person interested in this story and even if i listed my name it wouldn't make a difference.
mark my words, LJP will only get a slap on the wrist and all the investors will get nothing, which is what they deserve for being so gullible.

There was once a man named crist
and Lou was added to his list
He told his staff all was cool
while he let the elders be the fool
a party was held in his name by lou who promised this would never be news
Not a charge has been made about those who lost all
Instead the victims go TO THE WALL
Posted by: | January 09, 2008 at 05:57 PM
Only in his mind
Posted by: | January 09, 2008 at 02:52 PM
Are there any Chippendale dancers in his prison facility?
Posted by: | January 09, 2008 at 02:08 PM
If Pearlman was released, would he be constantly looking over his shoulder for investors who would like to meet him with a surprise visit?
Posted by: | January 09, 2008 at 11:24 AM
Perhaps he'd vote for Ron Paul and move to Panama
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 11:08 PM
6:21 you're keeping it real.
Perhaps this will turn in to the Free Big Poppa Blog.

I see the poster at 6:21 doesn't have the odacity to list his/her name. That shows that they are afraid to let people know who they are and how stupid they are. If they truly believed he should be freed then they would post their name. Just another stunt by another moron to provoke anger. Another Lou crony!

Does anyone know which jail Pearlman is in?
Posted by: | January 07, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Forgiveness is in each persons heart no matter what the wrong doers sentiments may be. A very difficult thing to do, but necessary for our own sanity and well being, so that we are not attatched to the source of our anger, rightious as it may be. Why give anyone that much power in our lives? Pearlmans life is ruined, we still have a chance to make it worthwhile.
Posted by: | January 07, 2008 at 08:23 AM
Sentence him to time served
Posted by: | January 05, 2008 at 08:46 AM
Wayne, no need to apologize. We need humor to get us through the day. As for the person who made the post, Posted by: | January 03, 2008 at 11:33 AM. You are right on the money. Of course no one is perfect, that is why Christ died so we wouldn't have to be. Not a soul on this earth lives perfectly but someone who considers themself a christian, does the best he can. Pearlman made no attempt to live even a half decent life and certainly hasn't asked for forgiveness. For the other poster who stated you can't believe the bible, you are half right. There are many translations however, being someone who has done biblical research and study for the last 10 years going back to the old Hebrew version, the bible is pretty accurate. It is the people who read it that make it their own. There is a difference. It is what it is, the whole point is that Pearlman does not deserve forgiveness if he hasn't bothered to ask for it. That's the bottom line.

there's a man whom assured
all of his investments were insured,
but it ultimately bought him a get-away to the jail house.
most people knew him as lou.
his demeanor wasn't all that crude,
but his business practices now appear to have been very askewed.
uuugh, uuugh, uuugh, looouuuu!
and it ultimately bought him a get-away to the jail house.
there was a killer whale painted on a blimp.
you could get an aerial sight seeing trip.
all you need do was invest in his airship company.
when that business flopped,
the boy bands then did 'be-bop',
but for lou that still wasn't enough money.
uuuugh, the people started to wonder.
louuuu, the people really started to wonder.
when the people started to ask:
"hey lou, how long will this last?"
"it won't end until god stops making little girls".
in the meantime he planned and schemed,
eisa accounts, new boy bands, and other pipe dreams,
church street station, chippendales, and a steak house called 'pearls'.
uuugh, the people started to wonder.
looouuu, the people worried and wondered.
the employees would whisper soon,
and the boy bands sang a different tune,
as they went to court to give their very own testimony.
but the lawyers spoke for lou.
"of course your honor, these allegation simply are not true",
even when justin t. says he was financially raped by a svengali.
more to follow later (maybe). sorry helen and kim for yet another poem.

When will Pearlman start sharing his cell with another inmate? For what life might be like for Pearlman, see the movie Jailbait.
Posted by: | January 03, 2008 at 12:32 PM
9:05 am, being a Christain is an attitude, no one lives up to it, we fail daily. That acknowledgement is an admission that we all need redemption every day. Perfection is for fools, trying to live right is the only wise choice any of us can make to try and reach an accord with our creator, this is the Christain way.
Posted by: | January 03, 2008 at 11:33 AM
I wonder if Pearlman has Chippendale posters on his jail cell wall?
Posted by: | January 03, 2008 at 11:19 AM
What about naming a temple after his late mother with our money. Did he really think G-D was going to forgive him?
Posted by: | January 03, 2008 at 10:25 AM
This Sunday would have been Reenie Pearlman's birthday.
Good thing she's not around to see what a schmuck her son turned out to be.
Posted by: | January 03, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Truth be told, none of you know what Pearlman isthinking because he hasn't issued any statements at the advice of his attorney. You don't know if he is remorseful, you don't know the truth about anything. All you do know is the bulls**t stuff that is put on this blog. And as for the fools that say he does not deserve visitors, everyone in this world, no matter what they have done deserves to not be completely alone. So you can all sit there and speculate and bitch, moan and complain and wish evil, horrible acts against him but that doesn't make you any better than him and it doesn't make any of you Christians. So don't go trying to preach and get on your soap boxes, how does the saying go?... Let he without sin cast the first stone. And Helen isn't any better when she doesn't have anything newsworthy to report she resorts to who visits and how she has been reporting onthis for a year, blah, blah, blah. I am surprised her editor is allowing her to not verify the truth behind some of things she is reporting.

There's no such thing as a Christian.
The bible also says an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, condones slavery, and stonining your neighbors for certain offenses. It's a collection of books that can be read all kinds of ways. AND not one person living in the times of Jesus took down dictation of what he said, so nobody knows what he actually said or taught, only what 2 or more generations ago said he taught. AND let's not forget the different versions and translations of the bible that have different connotations.
To believe some English translation of the bible actually contains the words of Jesus is foolish. To pick and choose those practices you want to follow and those you believe irrelevant is revisionist.
I'll bet a year's salary that there's not a single person on this blog who considers him or herself a Christian that follows all the rules of the bible - just the ones you find nice. Check those clothing tags, because if you are wearing clothes made of mixed fibers - you have comitted a sin. Men - you areen't allowed to shave. How many of you have burned a bull on your altar recently?
Forgiveness is a good thing for you psychologically. Hangining on to resentment is stressful which is bad for your health. You don't need Jesus to figure that out unless you're not very bright.
Posted by: | January 03, 2008 at 09:05 AM
Kim
no need for an eye for an eye
Pearlman will have bubba's "eye" to worry about the rest of his life
and I don't mean bubba's eyes on his face

Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 09:03 PM
Christian or not, I am, as everyone else is, entitled to their feelings and opinions. The Christian thing to do is forgive him if he showed remorse and asked for forgiveness. These are things that he has not done, so therefor, it is a mute point. The bible says not to hold resentment and to forgive those who ask for forgiveness. I am not holding resentment, I am angry. I am not forgiving for he has not asked for it and I am not being judgemental, the facts speak for themselves. Also, I am not a bible thumper, I am simply a believer with no religious preference. I believe he should pay for his sins, as the bible says he should. Personally I wish we were back in biblical times, an eye for an eye.

let him rot in jail for the rest of his life, and in hell for eternity. Lets get congress to pass a law giving tax credits to all who lost their means of survival in the eisa program which should have been shut down years ago if proper monitoring was done to protect the public, which is a bank and government responsibility.

If he has the means then he must make restitution. But if Pearlman is in fact broke and he repents then any real Christian should forgive him.
Faith, forgiveness, and mercy are after all more important than money.

There is plenty of the batterred wife syndrome going in in this saga, oh yes there is. Don't go there people!
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Jimbo Jimbo..restitution has to be part of it or repentence is a hollow gesture. Your logic is like in Saudi Arabia where the guy just has to say 3 times " I divorce you" and it's done. Please, we live here.
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 04:28 PM
Those 'friends' that visit this poor excuse for a human being remind me of the battered wife who still 'loves' her battering husband and can't leave him... For some bizarre reason they don't believe him to be the despicable liar he's proven he is.
He does not deserve visitors.
The pariah should be left alone to rot.
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 04:25 PM
According to the Bible and Christ's teachings it does.
Posted by: jimbo | January 02, 2008 at 03:57 PM
hey jimbo, let me get this straight. If you repent, does that resolve you of all wrong doing? Regardless of the crime or wrong?
Posted by: a | January 02, 2008 at 02:46 PM
But if he repents we must forgive him. And it is not up to us to Judge if his repentance is sincere.
Posted by: jimbo | January 02, 2008 at 11:58 AM
Jimbo, restitution and reconcliation are also clearly called for, as Christains. Lets not kid ourselves that Pearlman thinks any of this "fairy tale way to live a life", as many non Christains refer to us Christains, would apply to him.
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Kim,
That doesn't seem like a Christian attitude. As Christians we should forgive Pearlman and wish him the best.
Posted by: Jimbo | January 02, 2008 at 10:35 AM
It's all good to write poems about this situation however there is nothing poetic about what this piece of crap has done. I am very curious to see who he puts the blame on. I hope his Christmas holiday was as miserable as many others. Although he is a Jew by birth, he still spent his holiday locked up where I personally hope he spends the rest of his rotten life.

There once was a boy
Who looked out a window
toward ships
that were lighter than air
Above his humble beginnings
For a while he soared
Living large in his dreams
While reality was ignored
Passengers many
His friends and his kin
Along for the ride
Of their life
Watched clouds block the sun
As he went on the run
Spun their gold
Into tales of strife
There once was a man
Locked in the can
Who looked out a window
and dreamed of a life

let me expand on your contribution:
There once was a big sh*t named Lou
Who hundreds he did screw
Now he's in Jail, and there won't be no bail
Hundreds of inmates looking to nail
Someone like Pearlman's tail
No more fraudulent sale
Of fake company stock
For now Pearlman is under lock
With Carlos and Bubba
As Lou wishes he was in land of Ali-babba
No more boy bands
Only Bubba wedding bands
As Lou remains in jail for years
And continues with the tears
Fearing more of those arrears
And Helen's becoming a star - Hooray :-)
