How are you planning to spend your tax rebate?
Congress is still working on the details, but it looks like all of us who pay federal income taxes for 2007 will get a rebate of our taxes paid up to $600 (single) or $1,200 (married joint filers) plus $300 for each child claimed as a dependent on your return. The remaining debate is over what to do for people who don't pay income taxes. The proposal the House has agreed to offers a rebate of at least $300 for anyone with earned income of at least $3,000. The Senate is looking at proposals that extend rebates to people on Social Security who don't pay taxes.
My question is: If you expect to qualify for a rebate, what are you going to do with it? If you plan to spend it, tell us what you'll buy. If you plan to save it, tell us how you'll invest it.

St. Petersburg Times personal finance editor Helen Huntley writes about money topics and answers questions about financial planning, investments and personal income taxes.
$240 Property Tax Break
10 percent annual cap on assessments
A transfer Save Our Homes tax benefits
Bush giving US $600
Lower interest rates for all of US,,,,,,Priceless
There are some things in life money can't buy, for everything else there's ?

I'm with Sherrie above. The smart thing to do is pay off debt. Since I don't have any debt, I'm going to put it in the bank and save it for something I need later. The spend it all mentality is what got us into this mess and we don't need the government encouraging more impulse buying.

A single person who makes under 75k gets the rebate and a married couple who makes under 150k gets it? So the husband could make 100k and the wife 35k and they get it.
I make 95k and get zippo.
Perhaps you all should give 10% to the canteen fund for Big Poppa.

If my rebate is less than $500.00 for a single.
I'll call a press conference and burn it on the courthouse steps in my county.
$750.00 would fix my car.
$300.00 couldn't help me pay my car insurance.

I'll be paying off credit card debt with my $1500 (joint filer with one child), though I gather that is the opposite of the government's goal for the money- no fast, short term economy strengthening in reducing personal debt, I'm afraid.
