Zoo Story Part 6: The Human Exhibit

Flo_owlguy_121007
Child magazine declared Lowry Park the best zoo for kids in the United States, rating it above the biggest institutions in the country, with the San Diego Zoo getting the No. 2 slot. In its article, the magazine salutes Lowry Park for its hands-on exhibits, its array of children's educational programs, its years of rehabilitating manatees and its commitment to safety.

But all this costs money. Chapter 6 explores some of the fundraising tactics the zoo uses to keep its doors open and its animals safe and happy. Do you think zoos should be financed with tax dollars or only through private funding? Or both? Explain your view on this topic.

Zoos and other cultural institutions are always looking for ways to raise money. Share your best idea for how Lowry Zoo could bring more dollars in to support their needs.

I think that over the years Lowery Park Zoo has definately changed a lot. I think that it has changed for the better and I think that the animals have been taken care of very well and I think that this zoo is one of the best I've ever been to.

I THINK THAT IS SO AWSOME. WHY DID THEY PICK THE BEST ZOO. HOW COME THEY COULDNT ALL BE IN THE SAME CATOGORY.

I think next week my class go to the Lowry Park Zoo I think next week get some fun and I hope that I can see new things.

Lowry park has made a big comback since 1988. From what i've read it was pretty bad.The information that is in zoo story is incredable. I will enjoy going to the zoo on the 24th.

in many ways the lowry park zoo was having many difficulties but it has improved very well.also i think that having the zoo be in the public is a good way tp have people see many new and eexotic animals.

Would you happen to know where St. Louis ended up on that list? Our Zoo is funded I think with both private and tax. I know the private for sure, my mother is a zoo member and she donates money to the Zoo.

Thanks

I think that a zoo, even if local is a very important part to the city. I think that a bit of tax dollars are important for the zoo, although I know the zoo here in Omaha uses a lot of P.R. for raising money and does quite well. It has also been very successful and up to date.
