Something to feel good about
I'm tired of the gloom and doom that's being spread throughout our blogs and forums regarding the online poker dilemma. Here's an article from CardPlayer's legal mind, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, and it really hits home regarding how the government has never been able to regulate offshore gaming sites and never will. Plus, it touches on how to fund that account, so don't panic. Read it here.

Christopher Cosenza is co-host of the longest running poker podcast on the planet, Ante Up! He started playing poker seriously in 2003 and his favorite players are Phil Ivey and Kenna James, though he tends to act like Phil Hellmuth if you make a bad play against him.
Scott Long, Ante Up!'s other co-host, is the author of the monthly Bet on It column in tbt*. He began gambling way too young (don't tell the fuzz!) and in the seventh grade, named his state "Gambleland" for a school project (State Animal? Loan shark, of course).

I just got back home from Vegas from the MansionPoker.net PokerDome trip.
I'll post more on Tuesday when I'm not so exhausted.

I hope she is right. I know I have no intention of stopping. I've even thought about (though not seriously) moving to Canada. The biggest drawback is I think all this legislation will start to reduce the number of casual players. This average skill of the online players will increase. I guess this means I'm going to have to get better. Or luckier.

Brett: I'm going to mention your appearance on Mansion this week on our show. It's 11 Eastern on Sunday right?
Geek: What she said is true as far as never being able to regulate or stop online gaming so we'll see.

See I disagree with the article. it depends what they write exactly the banks will do.
This bill is suppose to stop payment to online poker sites. to me if it was my job and to do my job correctly I would have to think of every possibility. include 3rd party.
we are poker players are sitting and saying we will still be able to do it they will figure out a way. Just like we thought this bill would never pass becuase there isnt enough time for them to vote on it. instead they attach it to a port security bill at the very last minute.
I forget the name of on politician but she is from vegas and she made a very good point. they are picking on poker players becuase we are not organized. the lotteries and racetracks are organized and why they was excluded. will cost too many votes.
The Poker player alliance is doing a terrible job trying to protect us. we need to like the NRA and when an issue is on a ballot or a politician wants to infringe on right to bear arms. they are all kind of ads on tv what they are trying to do. Think about what have we seen from the poker player alliance.. they tell us poker player we have to goto the media. to me they are dropping the ball big time.
you have to effect the votes of the politician and when we can make it happen.. that is when poker will be regulated or we will be excluded from the bill just like the race tracks and lotteries.
ok I will get down from my soap box.. thanks for listening.

in short I will put it in a way that all poker players will understand.
You are dealt pockets aces. You slow play the aces down to the aces. then it turns out some gets two pair, flush or straight on the river.
This is what we as poker players are doing. With pocket aces it is very dangerous to slow play them. you should bet aggressively to make people fold and hopefully get a heads up situation. then when the turn comes you put a good size bet. You dont want to give the other player a free card.
with this anti-online poker with the politcians this is exactly what we are doing. They need to know this will risk votes like how when we get poket aces we need to show players at the table it will cost them chips to see the flop.

Garry,
I don't quite agree that the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is dropping the ball. They have a membership of 120,000 compared to over 2,000,000 in the NRA. There are over 6,000,000 online poker players in the USA. If we can get 2,000,000 to join the PPA then it will begin to weild the same kind of weight that the NRA wields. Numbers = VOTES. VOTES = Power.
We as a comunitiy of Poker Players cannot be complacent. We must make ourselves know. Over 75% of the US Adults disagree with the online gaming ban, yet a vocal minority passed the legislation. We must stand up and be heard. We can't just silently sit in the corner of our smoke poker rooms and wait for someone else to protect our rights, we must do it ourselves. That is why we must show solidarity and join the PPA. We must get out in numbers and vote. We must write our representatives and make our feelings known.
