Dags on Show 116

Johndagostino1

My fellow Nutmegger, John "Dags" D'Agostino, is booked for this Friday's show. Of course I'll be asking him about that armpit of a state, Connecticut, and we'll bring up such topics as the U.S. Championships, High Stakes Poker and Full Tilt. But if you have something you'd like to ask him please list it here or email us and we'll be sure to take it under consideration.

Hey,
Lay off the "armpit of a state" comments. Some of us like it up here. Just because you came up for 2 overcast weeks doesn't mean it's always that way up here. You are spoiled by the constant sunshine down there, but you'll never enjoy a crisp October day with the smell of fireplaces burning wood and the spectacular changing of the trees.
I have no questions for J Dags.

Just remember that I lived there for the first 25 years of my life pally!! Stop your whining JLB, you did enough of that over on the PokerWire msg boards the other night. LOL!!!

41 years, I win!
You know I'm a Joe Sebok fan. I'll miss their show. I'll have you know that I did vote Ante Up as the best podcast on Bluff, so relax. Your like a jealous woman when it comes to other podcasts. I'm man enough for multiple podcasts.

My state New Jersey is the 'Official Armpit State of the USA' - so lay off calling CT an armpit.

Instead CT can be classified as the pungent sweat and odor that accumulates within the armpit!

Did "D" ever apologize to Hoyt Corkins after this?

Hoyt Corkins middle name should be badbeat or suckout. If I was John, I would have been pissed too. I remember watching that hand on T.V. and just utterly amazed at Corkins' luck. He pulled another suckout on Lederer in the same tourney.

Hellmuth called Corkins' strategy "shove and pray."

Corkins does seem to play a high-variance kind of game (at least in tourneys). But he does have some major success to his credit. He must either a) know something we don't, b) be on the + side of variance & therefore the luckiest person alive, or c) is not that successful of a player.

Hoyt Corkins is extremely successful because he pushes and prays early and late, but he outplays his opponents in the middle stages, which isn't a bad strategy. But do we have any questions for John?

Besides my first question, I'd like to know which provides more dough:
1) being a pro poker player
2) working in a donut shop

Can you ask Dags if he's read the chapter in Harrington Vol 2 which is a long analysis of his heads up session with Ivey at the end ofa big tournament - and if so did he disagree with any of Harrington's commentary?

The Corkins video that Sports Guy posted is awesome. I doubt Corkins was mad at all. It sounded like he felt bad for D'Agostino more than anything.

Ask him why he hates Razz so much, then tell him why you/we think the game is great. It is an easy game to understand. Right Blaz?

GREAT QUESTION SHARKEY!!!

Hey GapBand, if you're reading this, send me an email with your home address, I have your BANANA!!!!

About This Blog

Christopher Cosenza is co-host of the longest running poker podcast on the planet, Ante Up! He started playing poker seriously in 2003 and his favorite players are Phil Ivey and Kenna James, though he tends to act like Phil Hellmuth if you make a bad play against him.

Scott Long, Ante Up!'s other co-host, is the author of the monthly Bet on It column in tbt*. He began gambling way too young (don't tell the fuzz!) and in the seventh grade, named his state "Gambleland" for a school project (State Animal? Loan shark, of course).
