Episode #121: Derby Lane's Jeff Gamber
MAIN TOPIC
Jeff Gamber, director of poker operations at Derby Lane, swung by the studios to talk about the room's recently completed $550 tournament (which ended with a 6-way chop not long before closing time), what's next for his room (a series of "What's Your Passion? tournaments with prizes like a brand new Harley) and the changes in Florida law (latest proposals will, among other things, allow for rebuy tournaments). HAND OF THE WEEK
Longtime listener Theron of Houston sends us a hand that shows that even when you flop a monster, it doesn't necessarily make it any easier to play.
He's in a $100 no-limit hold'em MTT with 25K in starting chips and 30-minute blind levels (no word on whether this tournament is still running. :) ). Everyone has about 60K in chips and blinds are at 300/600. The UTG makes it 2000 to go, and Theron calls with 5-5 in middle position. The button comes along for the ride, and three see a flop of A-A-5. The UTG bets out 5500 into the 6900 pot. What do you do? Slow play/calling, like Theron does, is solid, but also consider raising. If either of your opponents have an Ace, they'll likely play back. And if neither does, you're likely not getting any more money out of them anyhow. So, the button tags along and the turn is a King. Ouch. Did someone just catch up? The UTG fires 15000 into the 23400 pot. What do you do now? AK or KK are likely holdings for our opponents, but certainly not guaranteed. Theron just calls, as does the button. The river is a 9, and the UTG doesn't let up - pushing 15000 more into the pot. At this point, you can't fold and probably shouldn't raise. Theron calls, as does the button, and takes down a monster pot. UTG had AJ and button had A8. Whew.

Christopher Cosenza is co-host of the longest running poker podcast on the planet, Ante Up! He started playing poker seriously in 2003 and his favorite players are Phil Ivey and Kenna James, though he tends to act like Phil Hellmuth if you make a bad play against him.
Scott Long, Ante Up!'s other co-host, is the author of the monthly Bet on It column in tbt*. He began gambling way too young (don't tell the fuzz!) and in the seventh grade, named his state "Gambleland" for a school project (State Animal? Loan shark, of course).

Great show. Re: the chilling Ante Up! Hotline segment. The reference there is that famous Suspense radio episode "Sorry, Wrong Number" w/Agnes Moorehead (later adapted as a film). Nicely remade there by the family Gambit.

Thought this show had an awesome banter segment.
If you look at Khan's statistics on Pokerstars you'll see he is about 38,000 down in Sit and Goes before he got lucky in the WSOP
