AIPS III: (Almost) All the Info

The Ante Up Intercontinental Poker Series, Ante Up!'s official listener tournament series, is back for its third season. Here is just about everything you need to know (except exact dates of each event, which will be added as we know them).

WHERE

FullTilt. Password for all events is "anteup".

WHEN

Thursdays at 9 p.m. or Saturdays at noon, Eastern time. All events have a $5+$0.50 buy-in, except where noted). Here's the schedule:

PRIZES

The winner of each event gets their very own plastic banana trophy, suitable for showing off to your friends and family. if you finish in the top 20 percent of the field, you'll earn cold, hard cash from FullTilt and, more importantly, AIPS Player of the Year points. At the end of the series, the player with the most points will be crowned AIPS Player of the Year, win an incredibly tacky and unique trophy and be invited to be a guest on Ante Up! Gambit727 has graciously agreed to a new, one-year contract as Official Scorekeeper, thereby letting us have a scapegoat for any scoring questions, concerns or gripes.

BOUNTIES

Knock out Scott (OffDeadline), Chris (willhopper), Fasso (stpetebeach) or Columbo (columbo) in any event, and you'll get a public mention on this blog for this very important achievement. However, you'll no longer earn bonus points or swag. (Don't get greedy on us!)

WHAT ELSE?

We forget something? Well, just let us know and we'll try to answer it. Good luck!

- SCOTT

Nice job on the schedule. June is a bad move, maybe next year you can get rid of the Razz tourney. But I like the rebuy and the HO (what is HA, it's HO)

-Blaaaazzz

The "O" in HORSE (and SHOE) is Omaha/8, so maybe that's why they call Omaha "A." I like the fact that the Main Event is HORSE. I didn't request this but was secretly hoping. Best test of all-around skill, hands down.

And jumping the gun on next week's show, my New Year's resolution is to get Five-Card Stud reintroduced into the WSOP. Who's with me?

Is the HORSE ME going to be double stack?

Yes, Sharkey

Mike, no one is old enough to want to play 5 stud besides you :D.

I like it, I'm glad there's an Omaha8 tournament and that the main event is HORSE.

I don't understand why five card draw (hi) has never been reintroduced.

Should be the best AIPS yet! I love the changes especially the main event. I'm also glad to see PL O/8B is not on the schedule. I like O/8B but PL that's just nuts! Now if Fult Tilt could add 2-7 and Badugi...

hey I'd like to enter this poker series
.....but.....
I live in UK
0200 Fri am not very convenient for us brits!
we love the podcast
why not make them at weekend ie Fri evening or even better sun pm etc
Clive

Clive, it's just hard to pick times that are convenient for everyone in our worldwide audience, and limiting our tournaments to two time periods (Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons, Eastern) helps people at least plan. Hopefully you can join some fellow listeners from across the pond in our Saturday events.

The only thing that seems to be missing are the DATES. Is it the third Thursday of each month?

Which ones are Saturdays?

Otherwise, Love IT!!

Love HORSE as the final too. Good work.

Jeff

Hmmmm. Seems that I didn't learn how to read in all of 2007 and it continues in 2008.

If you're like me, GO LOOK at the very top of the post - not at the dates - where it says DATES WILL BE ANNOUNCED.

Mea Culpa and other latin stuff.

Jeff

Yeah Jeff, this is a year-long tournament and there's no way we can provide an exact schedule since we have no idea where we'll be in 6 months.

I am still not understanding why it needs to be on the same night of the week every time that it is during the week.

Not starting till Thursday the 17th? D'oh! My husband (kenoyer130) and I (boofdah) will probably be there!

I don't see this anywhere on Full Tilt. Is it full? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Dan--do a search (CTRL plus F) on Scott's uname, which is OffDeadline - that will bring up the AIPS III tournament info, and you can register for it using the password the guys have provided above. :)

Hope that helps,

Michelle

"I live in UK 0200 Fri am not very convenient for us brits!"

I've been in a few 3am tournaments, Omaha mostly (even the PLO8, the 2nd best game after PLO). It's great because you have four benefits:
- If you get into the money, you get no sleep but you get a reward and you can go to work right after it
- If you bust out early you can still catch a bit of sleep
- You get a few people admiring the fact that you show up in the middle of the night
- You get a few people thinking you're nuts (mostly the same people from the previous benefit)

Downside is you're a corpse for a day and you need a good nights' sleep to recover.

Before you take my advice though, know that I'm am the kind who, arriving 0:30am after a 14 hour drive from the south of France, logs onto a pokersite and plays another 5 hours (done that twice). And I think pot limit Omaha is a great game. I plead insanity.

You can't make the schedule because you don't know where you'll be in six months yet you need to have it on the same night of the week every time because it helps people "at least plan".

Why don't you two at least get your stories straight?

There is no good reason why this thing needs to be on the same night of the week every month.

Excluded: Not sure what your point is here. We can't have the schedule for the entire year posted because Scott and I don't know where we will be in 6 months. We take it month to month. We hold the events on Thursdays and Saturdays because those are the two days that work best for us. It's our poker series and we have to play in them. What's the point of having a series on a Friday when Scott works till Midnight and can't play or on a Sunday when I have a standing obligation? We've taken polls in the past and those two days worked best for the Nation. There's your good reason. Our stories have always been straight. If you can't play, sorry. But this isn't going to change. Just like you can't play on Thursdays, we can't play on the other nights.

I propose Sunday 3am ET. The US players get the experience of playing in the dead of the night (and it's not even followed by a work day) and I get to play after breakfast.

Then again, no, I love playing in the degenerate timeslot. I hereby request all Omaha events to be scheduled 3am CET.

ahhh ... i won first prize at my home game last night with 15 people so i could finally put some money back into full tilt JUST SO I COULD PLAY AIPS !! and now i see i JUST missed on the first holdem event. Limit is not my favorite, but after listening to all(most all) the shows i feel like I'm part of the Ante up nation and should join in on the AIPS fun. Alas I shall have to wait till march or quickly learn to play Stud poker (at some decent level) for the feb event.
greetings from Holland

ok i'm playing stud hi play money on full tilt right now .. gonna try and get into shape .. i guess there was an episode where i could pick up some tips as well, hmm should look that up.

Hi .

This h.o.r.s.e thing sounds very intersting .

I found some site for h.o.r.s.e poker
http://www.horsepokerguide.com
rules strategies etc.

I like HOSE. Razz is too sick.
