Episode #141: Poker Moment of Truth
Fox
MAIN TOPIC
Fox's newest game show, The Moment of Truth, inspired us to dig deep into our poker souls and expose our darkest card-playing secrets - while trying to bluff each other. Fasso is the host for this revealing look. Click here to listen to the show.
OTHER TOPICS
He flopped quads! Fasso, famous for saying he's never flopped quads IN HIS LIFE, does so not once, but twice in one week. And neither time was online, you conspiracy theorists!
AIPS recap: Well, not so much, since we had to tape in advance of the big event. But if you're reading this post, then you know who won because you read the previous post, right?
Scott's Rant o' the Week: Folks, wash your hands when you're in a dirty poker room. Your mom never showed you how? This Times file photo gives you a clue. (You'll also be happy to learn that most restrooms stock free soap.)
Annette, we want you ... to be on our show. But it hasn't been easy to book the European teen phenom Annette Obrestad.
SpadeClub launches: CardPlayer gets into the monthly membership poker site business. Just imagine the competition we'll have if the federal government decides to regulate online poker.
Hotline: SickBrain submits some musical possibilities, and Chicago Jason has some fun with Fasso and a former guest.
Tampa Bay Poker Replay: Scott says the small difference between a $2/$4 Omaha 8 game and a $3/$5 Omaha 8 game can be significant here in Tampa Bay, Land of Everyone to the Flop.
One Minute Mystery: We decide to fold, and are relieved when our opponent turns over his pocket rockets. Dodged that one.
HAND OF THE WEEK
Ross from Indiana is fond of Stud 8, but is working on his Stud game in order to round out his HORSE abilities (you're a winner already, Ross). He submits this stud hand for our analysis:
He starts out rolled up with Queens, with two Aces on board. He slow plays on 3rd Street, and doesn't need to get frisky as it's completed, raised and reraised by other players.
On 4th Street, he continues the ruse, just calling the single bet.
On 5th Street, danger lurks its ugly head. A pair of 9s with an Ace bets out, and our hero raises. A player with three to a flush sticks around, and we're reraised and then cap it.
On 6th Street, our hero boats up, and he drives the action. He's raised by the now-fourth diamond, and reraised by the 9s, and Ross caps it.
On 7th, Ross quads his queens, raises and caps it after it's reraised.
And then heartbreak: He loses to a steel wheel.
NEXT WEEK'S SHOW
TBD.
- SCOTT

Christopher Cosenza is co-host of the longest running poker podcast on the planet, Ante Up! He started playing poker seriously in 2003 and his favorite players are Phil Ivey and Kenna James, though he tends to act like Phil Hellmuth if you make a bad play against him.
Scott Long, Ante Up!'s other co-host, is the author of the monthly Bet on It column in tbt*. He began gambling way too young (don't tell the fuzz!) and in the seventh grade, named his state "Gambleland" for a school project (State Animal? Loan shark, of course).

I enjoyed the show chaps. One question though how can you not like vodka n red bull?

To me, the biggest question about this episode is how can waffles be the most favorite thing about Belgium? They have some of the best beer around! Some proper perspective, please.

It isn't really our most favourite thing: chips (French fries), chocolate and, as you pointed out, beer definitely rank higher. But in my experience, only waffles are exclusively associated with Belgium, whereas there's good beer and chocolate in Germany and Switzerland respectively as well. So if you'd rather have a Rochefort or Chimay, be my guest :) [my real English accent's probably a bit more pleasant to listen to than what you heard on the podcast ^^]

In my opinion the Belgian waffle has to be the one that sets the bench mark for all other waffles.

To Clever Moniker:
"They have some of the best beer around! Some proper perspective, please." This can be only said from someone from Belgium... The best beer comes from Germany... The stuff in Belgium wouldn't be called beer in Germany :-)

My favorite beer is Stella Artios which is actually French, German beer is overrated.
Posted by: Scotsman420 | February 23, 2008 at 04:53 PM
Stella Artois is Belgian, brewed in Leuven (or Louvain in French, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stella_Artois). And German beer *is* overrated, but it comes in unbelievable doses, especially in a Bavarian Biergarten 8-)
You *might* think this has nothing to do with poker, but it has, believe you me.

Guys,
when it comes to beer you should read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot
http://itotd.com/articles/519/the-bavarian-purity-law/
http://www.beerchurch.com/Default.aspx?tabid=333&PageContentID=38
Everything that does not follow these rules should not be called "beer" but some sort of brewed drink... :-)

You'd probably have more chance of bagging an Annette interview if you linked directly into her blog rather than to an affiliate site.
Just a thought.

Thought 141 was one of the best Anteups ever.
Any one able to guess who the boring guest with initials MB that Chris mentioned in one of his answers?

A show like "The moment of truth" aired last month in Germany.
The second question in the first show:"Did you ever take a crap in the bathtube?".
That's when I swithed the channel...

Great show this week -- the Kathy Libert line, I nearly fell of the machine I was on at the gym when I heard that. The lawsuit papers would have been sent to the Times and the Ante Up fortunes would have been in question.
And for my money, Stella is the best beer going. The picture of the brewery is a sign that there is definitely a higher power out there - take a look

Awesome podcast. One of the best you guys have ever done. It's great when you guys have Fasso in the studio with you.
Those lead-in music spots that were created for you freak me out though. That whisper voice is creepy.
