The Police Are Coming!

PoliceTHIS JUST IN! According to the Police's official website (oh, and Ticketmaster), Sting & Co. are coming to Tampa's St. Pete Times Forum Wed. July 11. Tickets go on sale March 10.

To be brutally honest, I'm a bit tired of the Police, who recently reunited after decades apart. I hear them every day. Much like the actual authorities, I can't escape them. That said, their version of Roxanne was relatively fresh on the Grammy Awards. And Sting is too much of a vainglorious freak NOT to sing a couple of his solo hits, which could spice things up a bit.

So here goes, a possible Police setlist (with two Sting solo goodies)...

[Lights dim/Creepy opening music/Sting's disembodied wail]
Synchronicity II
Spirits in the Material World

Walking in Your Footsteps
De Doo Doo Doo, De Da Da Da
Can't Stand Losing You

So Lonely
Murder by Numbers
Fortress Around Your Heart
We'll Be Together
Demolition Man
Invisible Sun
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
Don't Stand So Close to Me
Wrapped Around Your Finger
King of Pain

ENCORE
Roxanne
Every Breath You Take
Message in a Bottle

They just might open with Roxanne, kind of like Rush opening their last tour with Tom Sawyer. Kind of like eating dessert before dinner but it really gets you blood flowing.

They have so much good stuff, they could totally get away with that. Smart idea, Sparky.

"So Lonley" would be inspired, but we need more old tunes. "Bring on the Night," maybe?

Wow - that setlist looks almost like one that they have in their boxed set/live CD.
I'm excited about this. The Synchronicity Tour was the first concert I ever went to. I was only 4 or 5 and it was Halloween Night (dressed up like Princess Leia). I don't remember much, so I'm stoked to see them again.
If you don't like it - don't go. Simple as that.

I swear on a stack of Rolling Stones: That setlist came entirely from my own head. And dammit, I want the credit.

Did I sound pissy about going? Well, first of all, I HAVE to go, it's my J-O-B. But after writing that setlist, I got pretty pumped about seeing them. The radio around here won't stop playing the Synchronicity cuts, but it'll be great to hear the other stuff.

Keep Sync II as opener...add Walking on the Moon after Invisible Sun ;) I'm psyched!

Oh my God...."Seeing The Police in concert" is on my "list" that my best friend and I created in 1985...still have it and would love to cross that item off. I love you playlist Sean..don't change a thing. See you on July 11th

I would be happy if they just played the entire Zenyatta Mondatta Album, and Invisible Sun. Hopefully they don't play any of Sting's solo stuff (YAWN). I want to hear Stewart rock his a@# on the skins.

I wouldn't count on any Sting solo cuts. Also, there are rumblings that they will digging into some album cuts that were not played during the Synchronicity tour.

Now if we can just get Steve Perry to rejoin Journey, I will be complete.

A few more that I think might make the set list:

Driven to Tears
A Sermon
Canary in a Coalmine
Bombs Away
When the World Is Runninmg Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around
Man in a Suitcase

They've already announced they'll be playing Police songs only, and it will just be the three of them on stage.

True, the band are extremely overplayed on radio, but for those of us who didn't see them the first go-round, this is an exciting opportunity. After the show I can get them back out of my system.
