PODCAST TIME! Genesis "Invisible Touch"
Ah yes, that glorious sausage-hang known as the Stuck in the '80s podcast has produced another masterpiece. This week we're giving up the love for 1986 Genesis album Invisible Touch. We gush aplenty about Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks -- but also debate whether this was the last time the Brit boys were any good. There'll be plenty of music: Anything She Does, Throwing It All Away, Land of Confusion. Plus as a bonus, Steve Spears will tell a devastating story about the love of his life leaving him for another dude. Or something like that. I wasn't really listening. But make sure you do.
As always, you'll find the link to the Genesis podcast (and dozens more) on the right side of this page. You can simply push a button and listen on your work computer -- or you can go to iTunes and download it that way. Either way, have fun and drink responsibly!

Sean Daly is the pop music critic for the St. Petersburg Times. His CD collection -- from Journey to Dylan, Prince to U2, Public Enemy to Stan Getz -- is much bigger and better than yours.
Sean, it's okay for you to admit you felt Steve's pain while you sat alone in the dark. C'mon, big guy, let it all out ... we're here for ya.

Wow, I fell asleep just thinking about Genesis. And the laaaaaamb lies down on Brooooooaaaaadzzzzzzzzz
But seriously: whose fake-Mexican accent is more offensive--Phil Collins, Don Henley, or the guy who did Jose Jiminez back in the 50's?

More like 40 minutes of magic -- you obviously haven't heard the 'cast yet, my friend. Spears and I could take the topic of Steve Guttenberg's toupee and turn it into Stuck in the '80s gold. Genesis is a winner -- trust me.
"Illegal Alien" is AWESOME, politically incorrect ai-yai-yais included.

Great podcast, and you're right - Genesis' last good album.

This podcast was so good I listened to it three times. You could truly hear Steve struggle telling his heartbreak story. I saw Genesis twice on the Invisible Touch tour, but I had a good time both times, and i had much better seats than Steve did. My favorite song on the album is "Throwing It All Away", followed by "Anything She Does." A little trivia: the band recorded another instrumental at the time called "Do The Neurotic" which many die hard fans think should have been on the album instead of "The Brazillian." It wound up as a b-side to "Throwing It All Away." A longer version of the song is on the Genesis Archives #2 box set.

Excellent job on the podcast Sean. I would pay you for 35 stupendous minutes, but I just did all my Christmas shopping super early today.

Oh, no offense to the podcast--the Three Minutes of Magic are either (a) all it takes for a great pop song to succeed, or (b) my wife's reward for a great dinner.
