Let's Get It On: Best Baby-Makin' Music
Between listening to Marvin Gaye and reviewing a new Luther Vandross box set and being reintroduced to Pamela Sue Martin -- and, of course, reading about Debra Lafave getting busted again -- I'm desperate for a cold shower.
I'm also thinking about a new playlist, one that culls all the grindy, sweaty, butterball-nekkid hot grooves from the masters. This is the music that accompanies my legendary Dance of the Seven Buttons (not to be confused with the Double Windmills or Chubby Cowboy).
THE BEST BABY-MAKIN' MUSIC!!!
Aw yeah, let's get it on, brothers and sisters. If you were putting together a mix of the sexiest songs of all time, the people who put you and your S.O. in a kissy-face mood, who makes that list?
Here's a few to get us started...
Let's Get It On -- Marvin Gaye
I've Been Loving You Too Long -- Otis Redding
You Don't Know My Name -- Alicia Keys
Something -- the Beatles
Love to Love You Baby -- Donna Summer
You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine -- Lou Rawls
Run to Me -- Raul Malo
Around the World -- Frank Sinatra
This Guy's in Love With You -- Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass
To Be Loved -- Jackie Wilson
Baby, Come to Me -- James Ingram
Que Sera Sera -- Sly & the Family Stone

Sean Daly is the pop music critic for the St. Petersburg Times. His CD collection -- from Journey to Dylan, Prince to U2, Public Enemy to Stan Getz -- is much bigger and better than yours.
True Love Ways - Buddy Holly

C'mon Sean, this list has to have some Barry White, even if it's just Barry White's answering machine ("Hey, baby, I'm not home right now, but why don't you lie down, open some champagne, and wait for me to call you back..")

A couple by Jeffrey Osborne:
Stay With Me Tonight
You Should Be Mine (The Woo Woo Song)

Jeffrey Osborne, I forgot about that dude. "On the Wings of Love," right?
Spears would never allow it, cause he's a New Wave pantywaist, but we could do a great 'cast on all those smooth R&B cats from the '80s. Osborne, James Ingram, Peabo Bryson. I love that stuff.

Let's Groove - Earth Wind & Fire
Get Down On It - Kool & The Gang
One On One - Hall & Oates
Sex Machine - james Brown
Human Nature - Michael jackson (that one's for Steve Spears)

I never thought of Hall & Oates as make-out music before. Maybe it's because Oates draws his eyebrows on with shoe polish. It's kind of a turnoff.

Van Halen? As baby-makin' music? Damn, Al, you're kinkier than I thought.
I don't remember music playing the night Kid Lulu was conceived. Although I do recall profane accusations and the sound of clicking high heels. Good times, good times.

Hey Sean... Long time Stuck in the 80's listener here... and I can't believe no one has mentioned: "Between The Sheets", by the Isley Brothers!!
But you can put pretty much anything on by Steve Perry (it's the voice) or Prince.. and I'm good to go! Barry White is another good one! Seriously though.. there are just way too many songs to list!

And I agree with Al on Joe Cocker's "You Can Leave Your Hat On."

Mazzy Star as baby-makin' music -- that's an interesting concept. It's certainly bedtime appropriate, but more somnambulant than sexy. And yet, it just might work. Good one, Tonianne.
