Amy Winehouse's Fairy Godmother
When 2007 producer of the year Mark Ronson made throwback albums for Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and himself, he relied on inspiration (and brassy talent) from Brooklyn's Daptone label, which excels at Stax-style soul as pure as Otis Redding's wail. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are the stars of the indie label. In this tricky lil' vid, they perform 100 Days, 100 Nights from the '07 album of the same name. Fire up your iTunes, young lovers. This is smoldering stuff...

Sean Daly is the pop music critic for the St. Petersburg Times. His CD collection -- from Journey to Dylan, Prince to U2, Public Enemy to Stan Getz -- is much bigger and better than yours.
Smoldering stuff indeed -- I literally just picked this up the day before I headed out on the cruise. It's fantabulous (and yes, I know that's not a word. But it should be.)

Indeed, you had mentioned Sharon Jones, planting the seed in my head -- and then I heard the song on a magazine sampler. This is soooo going on my 4-hour party mix as well.

This is awesome. I love this kind of music. I play this genre at work in the lab and I get these "are you seriously liking this?" sort of looks. I play it anyway! I so wish I could crank out sounds like this from my voice box. Dang!
Sean, your 4 hour party mix is starting to sound more like an all nighter.
Jane, I use fantabulous all the time. If Van Morrison can use it, so can we!

::jumping up and down with joy:: I just looked this song up on amazon MP3 and it's FREE. Yes, it's a stellar day here in the house of Riss.
