In Sean's Mailbox: Anxiety, Similac, Etc.

B52sHey kids, I'm sitting at my desk, in a lonely newsroom, waiting for a call from Alanis Morissette. Just wanted to say that the FF and I were truly touched by the outpouring of baby names and related congrats. I'm even getting private emails from folks with more suggestions. As for any firm decisions, well...

Anyway, I'm pretty sure hobo encampments are more tidy than my workspace. So before Alanis and I connect on a cosmic level, I should probably open a few of the 478 CD packages landsliding to my feet, including Funplex by the B-52s, which is reliably like Beach Blanket Bingo on Mars. Great sound to it (maybe a little fuzzier, rockier than before), but I'll talk more about that later.

For now, here's a list of notable new stuff...

The B-52s -- Funplex
Edie Brickell & Harper Simon -- The Heavy Circles

Shelby Lynne -- Just a Little Lovin' (This CLIP isn't from Shelby's new album. But it's one of my fave songs ever. Shelby Lynne's Your Lies. Enjoy.)

Kathleen Edwards -- Asking for Flowers
Paul Potts -- One Chance
Hot Chip -- Made in the Dark
Kate Walsh -- Tim's House
k.d. lang -- Watershed
Maceo Parker -- Roots & Grooves

Ledisi -- Lost & Found (WATCH THIS CLIP -- Ledisi is going up against Amy Winehouse and Taylor Swift for Best New Artist at the Feb. 10 Grammys Awards. Kind of like Anita Baker with a better band.)

Interesting list -- I'm gonna go check to see if my supplier (aka iTunes) has anything from the Maceo Parker album. That could be one worth picking up. I'm also curious about the Edie Brickell/Harper Simon pairing -- nice keeping the collaboration all in the family.

Sean, I so envy your job. Sure, I get free glasses valued at $1,035.00, but you get CDs thrown at your feet...and a lot of them are kick a%$ artists.
I'd dig through your trash for cast-offs if I lived nearby lol

By the way, did you like the name I suggested? Brady Daly. I think it works.

Shooting Rubberbands remains one of my favorite albums to date, but all of EB's later work - in my opinion - pales. Still, I'm interested in hearing your opinion(s) of her latest endeavor.

I've been listening to Ani DiFranco and Maceo Parker's live cover of Prince's "When You Were Mine" all week, can't seem to get it out of my head (along with Poe's "Hey Pretty," thanks Marissa!), and I look forward to the Parker release as well.

Oh I can't believe you've already gotten a copy of Funplex! I'll be waiting on pins and needles to hear what you think of it.

Wait a minute....Paul Simon's child bride and his actual child have collaborated on an album? Why hadn't I heard anything about this? Have you had a chance to hear it yet? Give me the scoop once you do, please!

Saw the B-52s at Busch Gardens last summer. The new stuff was really good and the old stuff was great. Very fun concert. If I could have one band play in my backyard they would have to be it.
