PODCAST TIME! Novelty Songs of the '80s
On the latest episode of Stuck in the '80s -- CLICK HERE TO LISTEN -- special guest Stephanie Hayes confirms that ALL WOMEN HATE THE THREE STOOGES. Alas, we don't really flesh out this anti-Stooge-ism. But I imagine it has to do with the fact that neither Larry, Moe nor Curly (nor Shemp or Curly-Joe for that matter) is even remotely attractive. Also, doing a Three Stooges impression is on par with Monty Python line-readings in terms of sexual attractiveness. In other words, Three Stooges fans aren't exactly babe magnets.
But alas, the latest podcast is not about the Stooges -- although you will hear a snippet of The Curly Shuffle, which is not nearly as entertaining as I remembered. Stephanie, Steve Spears and I run through the novelty songs of the '80s. (Pac-Man Fever, anyone?) In a controversial maneuver, we've saved the entire "Weird Al" catalogue for another show. Steve also refused to grandfather in "Fish Heads" (1979), which is just inexcusable, but hey, he signs the checks. So if you still wanna check us out, you can enjoy the rollicking good times here or download us on iTunes.
Enjoy the show, and nyuk-nyuk-nyuk responsibly!!!

Obviously, I'm not a typical woman. Sean, I will have you know that I watched the Three Stooges followed by The Little Rascals every day after school. I still enjoy a bit of the ol' Stooges from time to time. Fear not. Not ALL women hate them.

Not only do I love the Stooges, but my all-four-years-of-high-school (unrequited) crush quoted Monty Python to me daily. He even made me a Python mix tape junior year. This must say something disturbing about my psyche, that I did, and still would, find that attractive.

What sexist crap is that saying that all women hate the Stooges?
I go to Stoogeathons (on the big screen- big deal) every November... hell... I even dated a guy who looked like Shemp.
As for novelty 80's songs... Sean, find me The Ewok Celebration. It was a real song and a pretty big hit in the summer of 83. I can't find it anywhere, and I relinquish my nerd stance at sticking up for the Stooges. I refuse to attend a Star Wars convention.

I'm proud to wave the stereotypical banner for all us chicas who loathe the Stooges. Nyuck-nyuck-yuck.
Fun podcast, though. I'm still not quite over that Star Trek one, despite my affection for The Shatner.

yeah...what Jane said.
Abbott and Costello could so take the Stooges. And the brothers Marx, for that matter.

I didn't know there was a debate over the Marx Bros v. Stooges v. Abbott and Costello. lol I like all three comedic teams.
The point is the generalization made that ALL women hate the Stooges. I enjoy Stooge schtick. I prefer The Marx Brothers, then A & C and Stooges.
Vaudeville is a lost artform. If it comes in black and white, I will likely find pure entertainment value.

While the "women hate the Stooges" rap is firmly planted in the American folklore, I've heard that it's far more accurate to say "the Stooges hated women".
The story is that their days on the vaudeville circuit left them with a less-than-enlightened view of women. Apparently when the cameras weren't rolling they treated female costars like they were just another prop; no different than the frying pans, vises, and cream pies.

Sean, I hope you survived the talk with HR after the podcast was recorded.
Rare form, my friend. Rare indeed.

I'm a straight American male who can't stand The Three Stooges. I think our culture has gotten a bit obsessed with the "men like this/women like that" stereotypes over the last couple of decades. Just like what you like, I say.

Hey Sean
Stephanie is wrong. I love the three stooges, have always loved the three stooges and will always love the three stooges.
