The Sweaty Playlist

SweatySo yesterday, Stuck in the '80s guru Steve Spears and I were on TV together. It was a segment on the writers strike for ABC Action News. We were funny, we were loud, we were persuasive in our buffoonery. But more than that, WE WERE REALLY, REALLY SWEATY. Let's be honest: Steve and I aren't the smallest of men. But I've done a good bit of TV, and these were by far the hottest set lights that have ever scorched my baby fat. It was brutal.

Halfway through the bit, I just started laughing, 'cause we looked very much like Meat Loaf after a fiery rendition of Paradise by the Dashboard Light. (Or at least John Candy playing raquetball in Splash.) (Or Albert Brooks in Broadcast News.) When the camera was on me, Spears managed a subtle wipe of his brow. But I basically finished up looking like a sea creature who has recently emerged from the surf.

Anyway, the show, news anchor Brendan McLaughlin's Flashpoint, runs Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. If there's a link, I'll try to post.

In the meantime, here's THE SWEATY PLAYLIST:

10.) Gonna Make You Sweat -- C+C Music Factory
9.) A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall -- Bob Dylan
8.) Hot in Herre -- Nelly
7.) Get It Wet -- Twista
6.) Burnt Biscuits -- Booker T. & the MGs
5.) Doing the Sponge -- Spongebob Squarepants
4.) Drop It Like It's Hot -- Snoop Dogg
3.) Heat of the Moment -- Asia
2.) City of Blinding Lights -- U2
1.) I Melt With You -- Nouvelle Vague

lol I have nothing to offer by means of additional songs depicting hot, sweaty men. However, I'm giggling over the well described visual. Thanks. I hope there's a video link.

I like the choice to go with the Nouvelle Vague rendition of "Melt".

And this would be a chance to wheel out a song from one of my all-time favorite, if-I-could-only-take-one-disc-to-a-desert-island, last-request-before-the-warden-throws-the-switch albums, "Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Cole Porter Songbook"

"Too Darn Hot"

Don't forget the obvious one: "Sweat" by Oingo Boingo. Jeesh! Do i need to put yo through remedial Boingo education class?

"Now, Mr. Daly, if you'll be so kind, please step up to the blackboard and give us the lyrics to 'Grey Matter.' "

Hey Pop Life fans -- Sean and I are taking live phone calls on Saturday, Jan. 26, for an episode of Stuck in the 80s.

We'll take your calls between 4 and 5pm Eastern time. Topic: your favorite concert of the 80s.

The number to call is 727-892-2655. If you get a busy signal, keep trying.

SEAN! I'm so taking the Nouvelle Vague inclusion as a personal shout-out. LOVE!

JEFF! Miss Ella and Mr. Porter. Always, always appropriate.

I have nothing to add, as I'm floating away in a sweaty sea of bliss, thanks to these two songs.

Yes, indeed, we want all our '80s-stuck faves to call in Saturday. So allow me to hammer home the point: call between 4-5 ET this Saturday, (727) 892-2655, and you too could be a weiner.

If you get a busy signal, it's probably just Bassnote yammering on and on. So please keep trying.

Yes, Jane, that was in fact a shout-out.

Aren't I a lucky girl... *bats eyes*

Duh. I do have a song to add:

"You're So Damn Hot" -- OK Go

I'm warming up the DVR right now to tape your appearance on Sunday! Marissa, if there's no link, just hop a plane and we'll have a Steve & Sean watch party at my house . I'll even provide the Coke and Bugles. (Cos Bugles kick Funyuns a**)

Sweet! I'll hop on the groupy express right after the call in show...and I promise to keep within the designated 500 yards of both Steve and Sean.

Speaking of Nouvelle Vague (great album)...how about a podcast dedicated to 80s covers? Either songs covered in the '80s (Always Something There to Remind Me, You Keep Me Hanging On), or the best/worst covers of '80s songs (It's My Life, Hold me Now, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy).

"If you get a busy signal, it's probably just Bassnote yammering on and on."

I am offended Sean... No I'm not. I love when my name is used in the blog, or a podcast. I'll tell you Saturday about my drunken friend, who tried to pick up a pregnant girl at a Cars concert.

That's a great suggestion about an '80s Covers podcast, Tonianne -- I have a strange affection for covers, both good and bad. Could be interesting.

I made 3 CDs comprised of covers and the originals (or most notable version). Not all of them were 80s. I appreciate a cover if they don't try to duplicate the original...or mutilate something I hold dear. Such as: Madonna covering American Pie.
