What's Your Name, Little Girl?
A few months ago, I asked you guys for rock 'n' roll girl names. In this very SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT from the Forever Fiancee, you're about to find out why. Take it away, honey...
Hey Pop Lifers!
Sean, Kid Lulu and I are gearing up for a big life-changing event and we wanted to share it with you guys...
On January 30, we are going to welcome a new addition to the Daly clan: another baby girl who will hopefully inherit Sean’s long, hairless legs, thick, curly mane -- and my utter distaste for Funyuns!
We’re very excited and anxious to meet our new kiddo, but there’s ONE BIG PROBLEM. SD and I cannot seem to agree on a name. Actually, it goes much deeper than that. I HATE just about every name Sean has suggested. His choices either solidify our daughter’s future career as a pole dancer (Tiki, Trixie, Dixie) or condemn her to a lifetime of "growing into" her name (Gertie, Sadie, Pearl).
This has been going on for months, and quite frankly the constant bickering and eye-rolling is starting to get to me. Our latest argument is over Maya (Sean) or Mia (me).
So what we need is an epiphany, we need a sign from God -- we need your help, people! Give us your thoughts and maybe we will choose one of your suggested monikers for Baby Girl Daly. Remember that she arrives in 12 days. That means we have exactly 288 hours to come up with a name. Or 17,280 minutes. Or 1,036,800 seconds. But who’s counting??
So to my progeny, who may or may not have a name by the time she's born, I dedicate the She Who Shall Remain Nameless Playlist:
1) What's Your Name, Lynyrd Skynyrd
2) A Horse With No Name, America
3) The Name Of The Game, ABBA
4) Your Name Here, A.F.I.
5) My Name Is…, Eminem
6) Know My Name, Blake Lewis
7) I Don’t Even Know Your Name, Alan Jackson
8) Hallowed Be My Name, Alice Cooper
9) I Call Your Name, The Beatles
10) You Don’t Know My Name, Alicia Keys

Sean Daly is the pop music critic for the St. Petersburg Times. His CD collection -- from Journey to Dylan, Prince to U2, Public Enemy to Stan Getz -- is much bigger and better than yours.
YAY! To quote Miss Melanie in "Gone With the Wind", the best days are the days when babies are born -- so here's to January 30th.
Playlist contribution: "Sign Your Name" -- Terence Trent D'Arby
As for a name, Jane is always nice. Although she must be prepared for a lifetime of Tarzan jokes, she would most likely be spared any or all "Jane, you ignorant s*l*u*t" references, due to the passage of time. And "Jane Daly" has some resonance to it.
Between Maya or Mia -- I like 'em both, actually. Maya was on the short list of names in the event that my bambino was a chica (he wasn't...)
Posted by: jane | January 18, 2008 at 02:56 PM
C'mon, now, you don't have to play fair. Be honest, Jane: You loooove Maya.
You hear that, FF? The people -- well, person -- has spoken!!
Posted by: Sean Daly | January 18, 2008 at 03:04 PM
Congrats!
Actually, someone who I don't want to identify (but his name rhymes with "Weave Beers") tipped me off to this news a few months ago and I've been really good about sitting on it so that none of us got in trouble.
Consequently, the Cuban contingent of the Pop Life community has had quite a while to think about this particular subject and we've arrived at this inspired choice. Are you sitting down?
Havana
What do you think?
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | January 18, 2008 at 03:09 PM
While I'm usually the first one to wave the banner of female solidarity (sorry FF...), I gotta go with Maya. Always loved that name.
Posted by: jane | January 18, 2008 at 03:12 PM
Havana just might work -- I think we were looped on mojitos on "that special night." Then again, we were looped on mojitos for most of '07.
Posted by: Sean Daly | January 18, 2008 at 03:13 PM
Heh. Havana's pretty cool, actually, In that same spirit (sort of), my sister-&-brother-in-law named their son Destin. After the beach where he was conceived.
Posted by: jane | January 18, 2008 at 03:19 PM
"Havana" has been on a number of short lists down here, but people keep having boys, so it always ends up on the delivery room floor.
"Lucy" was the female choice when our son Chester was born, but that's probably not going to work for you.
Just don't name her "Idol" like that wingnut from the Dallas auditions!
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | January 18, 2008 at 03:32 PM
Our problem is that we can't have an "ee" name (Lucy, Sadie, Sally) because of Daly. It sounds weird.
Posted by: Sean Daly | January 18, 2008 at 03:35 PM
Congrats, SD and FF! How about "Tisdale P. Daly"? I don't know what the "P" stands for. It just feels right, you know?
She'd be a very lucky lady with either Maya or Mia.
Posted by: Stephanie Hayes | January 18, 2008 at 03:38 PM
Havana by itself is beautiful..but put it with Daly and it sounds a bit like Jimmy Buffett's "Havana Daydreamin"....Havana Daly, Havana Daydreamin...
Both Mia and Maya are great names, I'd say flip a coin or go with Mia Maya Daly.
Good luck!
Posted by: Erin | January 18, 2008 at 03:41 PM
That's funny, Hayes. Believe it or not, Kid Lulu has taken to marching around the house screaming "Ashley Tisdale!" She's turned it into some sort a 4-year-old rallying cry. (Oh well, she could have learned WORSE things from me.)
Posted by: Sean Daly | January 18, 2008 at 03:44 PM
Hmmmm....Havana. I'm afraid that one might end up on the delivery room floor again, Jeff in Cuba. But I actually like "Weave Beers." Can we have your permission to use that one??
And Jane....how could you sell a sister out like that?
Actually, I never told Sean this, but 8 out of the 12 or 13 people who attended my baby shower at work voted for Maya. I might be outnumbered on this one!
Posted by: Forever Fiancee | January 18, 2008 at 03:56 PM
First off, congrats! I'm sure you and FF are stoked!
You know, keeping L's in the family, and keeping with the rock theme, why not Layla? Lulu and Layla Daly...sounds like a travelling show that would be bigger and better than that Hannah Dakota girl....or whatever mountain state she was named for. That should make you proud.
And, in answering your Mia/Maya question, only cause I loved Pulp Fiction would I go with Mia. Mia's kinda cool and hip, where as Maya makes me think of Mexican food...not sure why....
That's it! Layla Mia Daly! I'm glad I was able to solve the crisis ;-)
Posted by: Jimbo | January 18, 2008 at 03:58 PM
One for the FF! Thanks Jimbo!
Posted by: Forever Fiancee | January 18, 2008 at 04:03 PM
You know, you only have to look back to the 80s for inspiration:
-- Ione
-- Andie
-- Ally
-- Demi
-- Molly
-- Mare
-- Annabeth
-- Lili
-- Sloane
-- Winona ...
and of course
-- Kristy (Kristy McNichol Daly!)
Posted by: Spears | January 18, 2008 at 04:21 PM
Sorry, Sean. The guys usually gotta stick together, but Maya's just not my brand of vodka. Besides, you ruffled my feathers with liking the Pats (today's tbt* p. 70), so consider this payback for that and SB XXXIX....
OK, I'm over it now, thanks!
Posted by: Jimbo | January 18, 2008 at 04:22 PM
Hey, Steve! Are you taking about Sloane from Ferris Bueller's Day Off?
That actress' real name??? MIA!
It's a sign! Hey, SD....Spears has named our baby. Maybe we should invite him into the delivery room.
Posted by: Forever Fiancee | January 18, 2008 at 04:25 PM
I could be in the delivery room? Wow, what a blog item that'd make! Can I blog live during delivery?
Maybe record a podcast too?
Posted by: Spears | January 18, 2008 at 04:38 PM
Sloane isn't a good name for your cutie, but I think it's divine recognition that "Mia" is the way to go.
Now let's get that podcast equipment ready. And I'll queue up the "She's Having A Baby" soundtrack.
Posted by: Spears | January 18, 2008 at 04:44 PM
I've been reading this to our friend Glory and she pointed out that the name Mia and kid Lulu's name are similar in sound and size....by George I think we've got it!
Posted by: Erin | January 18, 2008 at 04:56 PM
I'll recommend one of my daughters' names; Skylar. You can just call her Sky.
Song to play for your list: Name by the Goo Goo Dolls.
Posted by: bassnote | January 18, 2008 at 04:58 PM
Congrats! Another vote for Mia here.
Posted by: Carissa | January 18, 2008 at 05:28 PM
I have to cast my vote for Maya. Mia sounds like a stuffy old fashioned name, while Maya sounds more modern with a bit of ethnic flair from African-American poet Maya Angelou. ('Cos SD may be the whitest man on Earth, so a bit of ethnic flair may be needed!) Then again, I was intent on naming my (now 11 year old)baby Katie Rose, but Katie made "her" entrance as a (surprise!) 10 pound boy! Needless to say, that whopper of a boy couldn't be named Katie, so I have a Joseph Caleb instead!
Congrats on your impending second parenthood!
Posted by: Sherrie | January 18, 2008 at 05:38 PM
Alas, bassnote, I like the name Skylar, but we already have one in the family. And that kind of thing is taboo.
That seems to be the trouble with many of the names we like - we already know one (or several) people who have already laid claim to it.
Posted by: | January 18, 2008 at 05:41 PM
Geesh, is it obvious only to me, people? Mojita.
Baby Mojo, if you must truncate it.
Settled.
Seriously though, while I like Maya, it sounds too much like an ancient ruin. That being said i *love* Mia. Beautiful.
Posted by: Tonianne | January 18, 2008 at 05:49 PM
Congratulations on the baby news. My vote is for Mia. That was one of the names I had on my list of girl names. Knew someone who had an adorable girl named Mia and they called her Mimi. Too bad I had two boys, stupid boys, they ruinied my list. I had a tendency to name my kids after superheroes so I'm thinking Storm or Rogue would be kinda cool too.
Posted by: Melissa | January 18, 2008 at 06:01 PM
You could always go with Tyne...Daly.
Delilah Daly has a nice ring to it. Or Corey, for Lili Taylor's character in Say Anything...
But seriously, you don't HAVE to have a name so quickly. In my husband's family there is a grand tradition of kids going weeks, even months before receiving a proper name. Our son was 7 days old when I just looked in his little face and knew what his name was.
Good luck!
Posted by: Anne | January 18, 2008 at 06:12 PM
Name the kid Xtina.
Seriously, this is one doodle that can't be undid, home slice... and you guys deserve everything happy coming with it. U2'sday.
Posted by: Xtina | January 18, 2008 at 07:09 PM
HOKEY SMOKES, Dr. Spock! This is such absolutely incredible news. I, unlike Jeff in Cuba, had no clue!
WOW! Congratulations!
Mia: My concern is the child will go though life hearing MOMMA MIA! PAPA PIA! Baby's got the diarreah!!
A child should never have her name rhyme with an unfortunate body dysfunction. It is a beautiful name, but with that being said...
Sean, FF, you know where this is going ... my vote is for Maya.
Posted by: Marissa | January 18, 2008 at 08:29 PM
Has "Moon Unit" been ruled out yet?
Posted by: DG | January 18, 2008 at 08:51 PM
Something just crossed my mind. And you all probably have an idea of where that can lead.
Once the congratulations and preference for name were out of my head, my thoughts went to ... Sean's patented DOTSB and Hover move. I guess they do work, eh?
I apologize. I'll go back to eating my McDonald's yogurt parfait, now.
Posted by: Marissa | January 18, 2008 at 09:01 PM
I think it's time to bring back some of the flower child names from the sixties. Just imagine: Rain Daly.
Posted by: DG | January 18, 2008 at 09:04 PM
Marissa!!!! Leave it to you to think of the "moves"!! LOL woman!
Seriously though! Congratulations FF, Kid Lulu and Sean! As for the name..... I'm sorry FF, but I think I'm with Sean on this one.. Maya Daly just has a sweet ring to it.
Posted by: Carla | January 18, 2008 at 09:37 PM
I try not to disappoint, Carla.
You could try out Dilly Daly lol I'm kidding. I think it's a sugar rush.
Posted by: Marissa | January 18, 2008 at 09:42 PM
Don't listen to them FF. Go with Mia. Don't back down. Remember you have been caring this baby around for 9 months and you are the one having the baby. Therefore, you should have the final say.
Posted by: Karin | January 18, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Congrats Sean and FF,
I understand your dilemma. You should do what my brother did and split the difference and name her Maia. It is pronounced like Maya, but people often mistakenly call her "Mia"...everybody wins!
I should note however that Maya always reminds of the "empath" character from Space:1999...but then, I am a big geek
Posted by: Douglas Arthur | January 19, 2008 at 08:22 AM
Congrats!
Mia and Mia are lovely. I wanted to suggest mine and my daughter's name, though she insists that is really tacky. Oh well! HANORA is an old Irish name meaning with honor. I have no idea what connection that would have to music, but I am sure you could figure that part out. It is unusual to hear it in the US, but was common years ago in Ireland. Some people will think it is Hawaiian, so it keeps people guessing.
Whatever your choice, enjoy your precious moments together!
Posted by: Hanora Cassels | January 19, 2008 at 12:09 PM
Congrats!
Posted by: Hanora Marie | January 19, 2008 at 12:12 PM
Congrats!
Both of those names would be nice for a lovely baby girl. I think that Lilly would be a great name for your little girl. No matter what her name is, always charish each and every day you have together!
Posted by: Hanora Marie | January 19, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Emily.
"Emily" by Los Lobos off "The Neighborhood"
"For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" by Simon & Garfunkel
Posted by: Walter Cox | January 19, 2008 at 12:41 PM
I was just filling in my wife (the lovely "Harriot in Cuba") on the situation, and while she thinks both Mia and Maya are adorable, she gives the edge to Maya.
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | January 19, 2008 at 12:50 PM
So, "Britney" is out?
How about "Mayor"?
Posted by: Old Fat Bald Chick Magnet | January 19, 2008 at 01:05 PM
Argh Walter Cox!
I was in love with a girl named Emily once......now to feel sorry for myself once in a while, I play that Simon & Garfunkel song.
How about "Panama" as a name, Sean? Then she could have her own theme song......hehe.
Congrats!
Posted by: Al | January 19, 2008 at 03:27 PM
If it's between Mia and Maya, I gotta go with the former. And not just because the FF stuffs the refrigerator with Publix chicken salad before I visit.
Since I just watched the "Hate that I Love You" clip on iTunes for the 500th time, how about Rihanna as an alternative?
Posted by: Guy | January 19, 2008 at 03:42 PM
I have to vote against Maya. My daughters watch a cartoon on PBS called "Maya & Miguel", and Maya is the most obnoxious cartoon character ever. I have extreme distaste for that name.
Posted by: bassnote | January 19, 2008 at 05:57 PM
Jeez, Bassnote. Let it out, man. Let it out. I refer you to my first comment on this particular subject. It's all about the possible name calling, man.
Posted by: Marissa | January 20, 2008 at 12:28 AM
Congratulations! I am a mom to a rambunctious 17 month old Sadie. Love that name! My vote though, if it's narrowed down to two, would be Maya!
Posted by: Sadie's Momma | January 20, 2008 at 01:05 AM
And, if you're really stuck, head to this site for what NOT to name your baby:

Posted by: Sadie's Momma, Again | January 20, 2008 at 01:08 AM
Call her Sean Michelle.
Posted by: Mary | January 20, 2008 at 01:30 AM
Before I found out that my last was a boy I had picked out the name Alessia (pronounced uh-less-ee-uh) Congratulations!!
Posted by: Heather | January 20, 2008 at 02:34 AM
How about Delilah.....as in the Plain White Tees, not the biblical character :)
Posted by: Shannon | January 20, 2008 at 06:50 AM
ACK! I hate that song. BLEAH!
If you'd suggested Delilah as in the Tom Jones song it might have actually had a melodic ring to it. lol
Posted by: Marissa | January 20, 2008 at 09:35 AM
Josie and Frankie rock - but not in a cliche kind of way... But if your choosing between Maya and Mia my vote goes for Mia. It's just too popular right now - do you want her to be in Kindergarten with 5 other Mia's?

Maya is the intelligent, kindhearted flower child that goes to Cal Berkeley, doesn't shave her armpits, and attends Phish concerts in a restored 2006 VW, and considers homeschooling her eventual children.
Mia is the smart, sophisticated creative child that goes to Stanford and later in life has papers and/or books published, listening to Charles Mingus while driving her kids to soccer practice in her hydrogen-powered BMW
I think ..

Can I get any votes for...
PEPPER!
Pepper Daly, solving crimes, breaking hearts. Pepper Daly is your friend, your buddy. Pepper Daly gets the joke.
Pepper Daly needs your vote!
Posted by: Sean Daly | January 20, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Sean. Oh Sean.
Here's advice my mother handed down to all of her children:
Picture your child at all stages of life. Now, consider someone calling your child's name out at any point in her life. Would she be comfortable and proud of her given name? Or, would she want to sue you for giving a name that causes her to shriek with embarrassment?
Posted by: Marissa | January 20, 2008 at 11:38 AM
With that in mind, I suggested Dilly. Dilly Daly has a nice, harmonious ring to it, don't you think?
Posted by: Marissa | January 20, 2008 at 11:40 AM
What about Dia instead of Mia. Dia Daly sounds catchy.
Posted by: Jennifer | January 20, 2008 at 11:53 AM
Winifred is it! We are far too short of Winnies
Posted by: joru | January 20, 2008 at 12:53 PM
How about Water Daly?
Posted by: KK | January 20, 2008 at 12:56 PM
How about Shira? It means song!
Posted by: Harriet | January 20, 2008 at 01:44 PM
I love Maya...Mia is good too and both are great names for a girl as a kid and an adult.

Hannah Lee Daly ?

Sean, have you ever seen the great Showtime series "Huff"? There was a very hot stripper-hooker-junkie-love interest named Pepper.
But how about this one:
"Baked Fresh" Daly?
Posted by: Old Fat Bald Chick Magnet | January 20, 2008 at 02:52 PM
well.. as long as you dont named her Paris, Britney or Lindsay. Any other name is okay w/me! :)
Posted by: Neil | January 20, 2008 at 03:01 PM
Wow! Things are really getting silly and out of control here, Sean. I hope you, FF and Kid LuLu come up with a decision soon.
Posted by: Marissa | January 20, 2008 at 03:51 PM
Congrats to you, FF and Kid Lulu! I have two suggestions that are similar, but I like them both. Amanda (like Amanda Jones in Some Kind of Wonderful) or Miranda (my daughter's name is Maranda). They both sound good with Daly and either could be shortened to a variety of nicknames.
I like both Maya and Mia. Maya reminds me of Maya Angelou. Mia (and, this might be a deal breaker for you) reminds me of Anne Hathaway's character in The Princess Diaries. :) (And, I have to say that Marissa makes a good point about investigating the possible teasing of each name option. I have a friend that wanted to name her son Chase, until I pointed out that their last name was Buss and this could be a problem.)

Lala
Posted by: Lala | January 20, 2008 at 04:07 PM
My daughter's name is DeAnne, but she's been going by DeDe since she was little and she's 36 now! DeDe Daly sounds cute.
Another name I came across was on a box that some jewelry came in. It said Lia Sophia. I think that is a beautiful name. Anyway, best wishes for whatever name you come up with and that your new little daughter will be a blessing to you all!

Names and meanings
Hannah -(Grace) Jane -(God is gracious)
Souxsie -(Lily)
Megan -(pearl) Kay (Rejoice)
MEAGAN -(number one or great one; pearl)
Rio -(River)
Sara -(Princess)
MAYA -(Messenger of the Gods) Kay-(Rejoice)
MIA -(Sea of bitterness)

I like Hannah Jane but in looking up meanings Hannah means grace and I now like Hannah Grace Daly also.
Good Luck and Congratulations.

Maya was the name of the character played by Laura San Giancomo (I think that's her name) on "Just Shoot Me"
What was her profession? JOURNALIST! Eh, eh?

I am partial to Julia. Beatles, White album. The song is simply beautiful.
Of course, Megan is nice too. My brother's name is Sean, so they go together nicely.

Ahhh Sean. I leave the Times and see what happens!? Seriously, congrats to you and the FF. I was lucky enough to meet her once and she's too good for you. However, if she's been kind enough to bless you with another little one, you'd better pick out a good name....say...Haley Gaily Daly or Paley Baily Daly or....oh heck, Maya sounds beautiful.
Next Winghouse order is on me!

I totally vote for pepper. I love guy sounding names for girls. Its very sexy and modern. I also vote for Smith Daly.
Posted by: silva | January 21, 2008 at 01:31 AM
Sean- Congrats to you and your family on the upcoming arrival of your baby girl. I have two suggestions McKenna (that's my daughter's name) or McKinley (just a really cute name).
Posted by: Sarah | January 21, 2008 at 04:38 AM
If you'd be inclined to give your gorgeous baby girl a typically male name, why not name her BRADY. You know, after Tom Brady. This is the year for the Patriots, yes?
I know you wanted to keep away from names that end in 'y', 'ie', 'ey' etc... but you'll immortalize Tom Brady's legacy by giving your daughter his name. Just a thought...just tossing out ideas.
Posted by: Marissa | January 21, 2008 at 08:25 AM
Phaedra Ray - you can call her Fay Ray
Posted by: Crystal | January 21, 2008 at 09:08 AM
KYLIE (as in Minogue)- keep the 80's alive!.
Kylie Minogue managed to gracefully rock into the new millennium without scandal or shame to the name. And no disgracefully tart-ish girls born after 1980 have made the name ‘infamous’. By the way my name is Shawn too, but as a female I have never gotten past the “isn’t that a boy’s name?” comments. Power to a name befitting your gender and ability to Rock!
Posted by: Mommy in Dunedin | January 21, 2008 at 09:53 AM
Fay Ray! That's gold!

Jade
Mackenzie
I think Maya is better than Mia.
Maya Jade Daly--- sounds like a winner

I like the names Layla or Lila. They're nice names for girls and throughout her life, she'll have a name that's not too juvenile sounding. When she's 70 she'll still have a beautiful name.

Shiloh Tierney Daly
Posted by: momsnartist | January 21, 2008 at 02:50 PM
If you choose "Mia", try not to have a middle name that would cause any issues.
Exampled:
-"Mia Teresa" initials would be "M.T." which translates to "Empty Daly".
-"M.S." initials are a disease.
-No middle name would cause problems if she were to become a Physician (M.D.-M.D).
-"M.A." would translate to "M.A.D." once the Daly is added.
Just lookin' at the Big Picture..........
Posted by: O.D. Blue | January 21, 2008 at 02:56 PM
How about Irina Penelope?
I.P. Daly is a great name!
Yes, I'm nine. Why?
Posted by: Anon | January 21, 2008 at 04:00 PM
Been down this road twice. We passed on (but liked) Mary, Sarah and Elizabeth for various reasons.
Go with your gut, pick something that sounds good with the last name and avoid family names unless you've got one that works on both sides. will spare you a lot of grief.
And, I wouldn't call the kid "Every."
Anyone named "Every Daly" will surely get her butt kicked at school every daly.
Posted by: Brett | January 21, 2008 at 04:40 PM
Or, you could borrow a page from "Friends" and just call the kid "The Hulk."
"The Hulk Daly" has a nice ring to it, eh? :)

Mia and Maya are cute, but I like the name Kyla.. it unique and different and is pretty at any stage in life.

Mia.I thought my entire family had already discussed this with you guys. Several times. We're with the Forever Fiancee on this one. My adorable little sister's List of Reasons to Name the Baby Mia was not enough to convince you?

Maya reminds me of Maya Angelou or a native american warrior princess. Mia is my daughters name and I hate that it is so popular now. I named her 10 years ago.. It was not even on the list.I volunteer at a kindergarden. There are two Mia's in that class. Unless you want her to be the next Jessica or Jennifer go with something different all together. What do you think of Avery? ..

If I'd had a girl-child when I was younger, I liked the name JEMIMA -- means The Dove
But now that I'm older, I would prefer to have used my mother's name -- VERA -- means Truth.
Congrats and best of luck!

hmmmmm.....one of my cat's is named Mia, so i'm a bit jaded, otherwise, it's a perfectly cute name. however, i'm loving the name Havanna/Havana/Havanah...however you want to spell it, it could be VERY cute...AND sophisticated later in life (as long as the 'h' is left out at he end of the spelling, then it becomes more like 'hannah'..too cutesy). And, i agree with marissa about considering names at certain stages of life....
my most recent attempts at a little girl (or boy-i will love them both eternally!!) haven't come to fruition, so i offer you what my choices were...
-Andra (my own personal femine take on my man's middle name, Andrew)
-Jacinda pronounced ja-sin-da.(it takes a minute, but give it a chance....jacinda sue daly?? anyone? anyone?)jackie, for short.
-Madison. Very popular now, i know, but still, cute as h*ll when they're young, but sophistacated as an adult, and hey, it's better than being named tyke(i actually went to high school with one....very cute, but can you imagine being called 'tyke' or even 'tyler' in the nursing home when you're 80????
actually, while i'm on the topic, what about Melinda?? they're just might not be enough of us out there..and i get regular compliments on my name. just a thought. and my last name also ends with a 'y'.
good luck and congrats!!!!!!

Hey, Daly!
I first want to pre-congratulate you and FF on having your second girl! It's gonna be great and there will be so much estrogen in your house, it will suffocate you! Just kidding, but let me give you a few suggestions for girl's names:
Jaguar, Jasmine, Jenna, Sunshine, Jisma, Aureola, Shyla, OK...OK enough with the porn names.
How about.......
Audrey
Ada
Bella
Cora
Daniela
Dominique
Gabrielle
Janis (as in Joplin)
Payton
Sandy (or Alex)
or
LIESL!
Good luck with the names and I'll contact you after the big event.

Definately Mia over Maya.
Remember from our 9th Grade World Cultures Class -- The Hindu definition of Maya -- "the production of an illusion". When naming girls, also remember the rule of thumb -- no names former girlfriends or porn stars.

I like both Mia and Maya too. How about Devin? Devin Daly - nice ring to it, no?
Good Luck.

Since there seems to be a lot of different names being tossed around what about Erin? It is different enough but yet still a beautiful name. It also sounds great with Kid Lulu's name and you would have a vowel thing going on.

Still voting for Layla Mia Daly. Layla and Lulu...I see the marquee in lights now! They'll be able to support both of you with their World Tour of their new hit show, "LuLa" on NickHD in 10 years. They'll be so hot, they'll make Miley Cyrus look like a slacker!

How about Miya - and let her pronounce it however she chooses? Or you can use Ceska. I guarantee there won't be any others in her class! I was always the ONLY one. Congrats and enjoy her!
