Concert News: Counting Crows, George Michael
As well as getting the new Counting Crows album in the mail this morning (Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, out tomorrow), I just received word that Adam Duritz and the boys, plus co-headliner Maroon 5, are coming to Tampa's Ford Amphitheatre on October 3. No word yet on ticket info, but I'll keep you posted.
In other news, George Michael, in his first U.S. tour in 17 years, will be playing the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa on August 2. Here's the scoop on that. I've heard nothing of on-sale dates yet.
And finally, I turned 38 years old Saturday and made 13 hours worth of bad decisions. Hence, my lack of energy/excitement/vocal strength/friends/pity from the Forever Fiancee. I shall return.

Sean Daly is the pop music critic for the St. Petersburg Times. His CD collection -- from Journey to Dylan, Prince to U2, Public Enemy to Stan Getz -- is much bigger and better than yours.
Rut roh, Raggy ... the fall-out from fierce frolicking is never good. Enough of alliteration. I hope you can make amends soon.
Great news about GM.
The recent release of "You Can't Count on Me" from Counting Crows leaves the DJs clarifying that he's not saying, 'you CAN count on me." It seems Mr. Duritz nees to learn about annunciation.

Yikes, a solid 13 hours of bad decisions? I am duly impressed. I turn 39 in a scant 9 weeks, I may have to eclipse your record.

George Michael has never been to this area. This show is going to be a big deal (and an outstanding show).
He was supposed to play the Trop (back when it was called the Thunderdome) during his Listen Without Predjudice tour, but there was some was some scheduling rearrangement and the gig was cancelled before tix were to go on sale.
Thanks for the news. Let us know when ticket information is available.

I am assuming the Mr. Michaels is going to play an outdoor park with a public restroom somewhere in the Tampa/St. Pete area.

sparky! *snicker*
I may have to think about selling some plasma to be able to afford tickets to all these shows that are coming to town. A plethora of riches...
And only 13 hours worth of bad decisions? Not bad, Mr. Daly? Not bad at all.

The death of rock-n-roll can be traced to the day the video for "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" was conceptualized. But my wife's a fan, so.....

BTW-Happy belated, Sean. Herbie and Joni send you best wishes as well...

SD,
I know you couldn't hear it, but I gave you a birthday shout out on Saturday's radio show, and played Altered Images' "Happy Birthday" in your honor.
I'm sure the Cuban intelligence officers who monitor our radio transmissions are still trying to sort out who you are.

When I was in the 7th grade, my parents took me to the George Michael concert in Orlando... on a school night! whoo hoo!!
I'm hoping to relive the experience... only without the junior high awkwardness... and with better seats!
Still recovering from the b-day bash, huh? ouch. Hope it was a good one, old man!

GM will be on Eli Stone again this week.

And isn't that just a beautiful thing, Jonathan? LOVE Eli Stone.

Thanks for the shout-out, Jeff. Very cool. And I'm thrilled my humble birth could provide a moment of vague befuddlement for our Cuban brethren.

Giant Head! I almost called you during Hour 11, but by then my motor skills were shot. I guess I could have asked the bartender to dial the phone.
Good George story, too. I bet you were a cutie in junior high. Albeit a cutie with a ridiculously large hat size.

Oh to have been a fly on the wall Saturday ... especially in hours 10-13.
Posted by: Marissa | March 24, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Nah, even the flies went home by then. I can safely say nothing productive or positive happened after Hour 8.
By the way, as a result of the shenanigans, I've totally lost my voice. But more on that tomorrow.

Wow! Sean without a voice? That's newsworthy.
I had laryngitis during the week before my wedding (a hundred years and a divorce ago) I think it was a sign. My vows were barely audible. I digress.

giant head - My memories of this are really foggy, but my parents also took me (and a friend) to see George Michael when I was in middle school. It was in Miami. I haven't thought of that concert in YEARS! I completely forgot that I ever went to it. That was actually the third concert I had ever been too.

Welcome to 38, my friend. We've been waiting for you. Just a quick question - were your 13 hours of bad decisions at all related to George Michael?? A quick trip to a public toilet, perhaps? Inquiring minds want...no DEMAND...to know.

NickWithAnAxe - I'd like to be the one to satiate your appetite for SD gossip....
Our birthday boy DID visit the toilet. He went there for a half an hour to throw up the 13 hours worth of beer, shots and Red Bull he consumed.
His family was so proud of him! His 4 year old daughter suggested I take her daddy to the doctor because he had a "tummy ache."
SD - you can take me to the George Michael show to make up for Saturday! I saw George in Philly when he was still part of Wham - I threw myself in front of his limo as it was leaving the back of the theater where they played. Ah, good times, good times!

You know, if Sean's busy that night, you can always go with me. I promise not to attack you during "Careless Whisper."

30 minutes of eruptions from Mount Daly? Are you sure you didn't sleep through it?
Posted by: Guy | March 25, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Does anyone know if Andrew Ridgely will be selling bootleg shirts outside the George Michael show?
There are only so many opportunities in life to hear a live version of "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go".
