NEW MUSIC: Duffy "Mercy"

Rolling Stone is gaga for this new Brit, who bites her influences from the same joint as Wino Winehouse. Still, I kinda like it. Her backing band sounds like an automatonic Booker T & the MGs.

Comments

I'm so glad you're kinda diggin' her. When iTunes offered this tune up as a freebie, I was skeptical as I usually am with their free music picks.
I was so jazzed that I had to blog about it.

I sound like that guy on "in Living Color" ... "i wrote a song about it, here goes..."

And not that it matters, but Duffy is easier on the eyes than Winehouse. She appears to have eaten a sandwich and showered recently.

This is good. Really good.

I am a Winehouse fan, but I have to agree with Marissa's assessment about Duffy's appearance. Her hair actually looks like it's been combed sometime this decade.

Am I the only person who is reminded of Kristin Chenowith from Wicked? I mean, I can certainly appreciate her groomed appearance and, well, vocal talent (sorry mrstreme :) ), but I kind of kept expecting it to turn into a skit.

All in all, I'm definitely liking it.

I can see the Cheno in this, D.

I dig it. It makes me think a bit of beach/shag music.

D and Jane, I saw it, but I had already commented twice in a row. Needless to say, my thoughts weren't collected this morning.
And Jane, I referred to her sound as beach-blanket-bluesy-funk when I first downloaded this freebie. Few songs on "Rockferry" are similar to MERCY, though.
