"It's a Long Way Down the Holiday Road"

VacationCurious convergence of events going on here at Pop Life. I just received the new Lindsey Buckingham live CD/DVD, Live at the Bass Performance Hall, which is mind-blowingly faboo. Seriously, it rocks almighty. That guy might be the most underrated guitar player in the pop pantheon. His baroque reworkings of Trouble and Go Insane are iTunes-worthy and then some. He also tosses in a robust version of Holiday Road, the rollickin' theme from National Lampoon's Vacation, at the tail end of the set (yep, complete with dog barks).

Oddly enough, Steve Spears and I just recorded a raucous, Coppertone-slathered podcast about "Spring Break in the '80s," including the movies, memories and songs associated with hitting the road for rest, relaxation and demoralizing moments in tropical climes. (The show should launch in a day or two.) Anyway, one of the songs we played was Holiday Road, which I'm proud to say I also own on vinyl. Anyway, here ya go, a little Lindsey to brighten your day...or your road trip.

SD, what's up with the rumors of Sheryl Crow joining Fleetwood Mac?

It's more than rumours. Sounds like she'll hook up with them after her tour; new music and tour next year.

So do you think she'll end up in the Mic/Lindsay love triangle or it will be strictly music.

Last week in a Billboard interview, Lindsey seemed miffed that Sheryl Crow essentially announced her addition to the band. He said that her name had come up, but nothing was set in stone.

On a related note, I saw Lindsey (from the front row!) play at Tampa Theatre last year and I was incredibly impressed. His solo on "I'm So Afraid" literally made my jaw drop.

In a lovely stroke of serendipity, I've been listening to this live version of "holiday road", complete with dog barks, all week long on the road trip from hell. It's awesome. As is Lindsey, actually.

I'm always impressed with his guitar work. Totally underated!!

This made me reflect back on the 1983 gem "Spring Break". It had everything I was looking for in 1983 - which at that age was nothing more than gratuitous boob-shots. Ahh...memories.

Gratuitious Boob Shots would be a great band name. I'd go see 'em.

LB gave the best performance I've seen in the past five years at Tampa Theatre-"Under The Skin" and "Out of the Cradle" are both brilliant, and he reunited with John Stewart for his final recording (JS was one of the 4-5 greatest singer-songwriters ever, criminally overlooked, and died in January)
