BLOG BATTLE! Beyonce vs. Janet!

For most of the world, today is Beyonce Day, as Jay-Z's hotter half releases her third solo album, the double-disc I Am...Sasha Fierce. Ms. Knowles breaks down the release into soft (If I Were a Boy, LISTEN) 'n' sassy (Single Ladies, LISTEN), the latter represented by her club-banging alter ego, Sasha Fierce. With ample amounts of gush, froth and hullabaloo -- and maybe just a smidge of foofaraw -- I hereby declare Beyonce the Ultimate Entertainer...

...but basically just to tick off '80s apologist Steve Spears, who never fails to respond to my Beyonce love with a Pavlovian "WHAT ABOUT JANET JACKSON?!" Yep, things are getting ugly at the SPT, as old Spearsy just busted out his awkward "Nasty Boy" dance (nice Zubaz, dude!) and challenged me to an old-fashioned blog battle. Beyonce vs. Janet, for the title of Ultimate Entertainer! Feel free to play along at home...

Herewith, 3 Reasons Why Beyonce Beats Janet in Every Way (not counting JJ's awkward Good Times years, which would just be playing dirty)

1) I meet a lot of famous folks, and lemme tell you this: 99-percent of celebrities have giant heads and little bodies. Except for Miss 1 Percent, Beyonce, who is larger than life, especially those superheroic thighs. Kablammo! Janet Jackson, on the other hand, could get dunked on by a garden gnome.

2) Janet coos; Beyonce sings. Jackson has been busting out the same militaristic march-march-thrust dance since the Reagan administration; Knowles causes glorious seismic shifts with Aileyesque undulations and her Crazy in Love glute getdown. There is none shimmier.

3) In a day and age when class is rare and crass rules, Beyonce conducts herself with grace and mystery. Janet, on the other hand, causes a stir when she wears a bra. She's always showing it off. That's gonna be really awkward and creepy when she's 42. Oh wait...

Look, I'm a big fan of both, but there wouldn't be Bey Bey without Miss Jackson. She paved the way for all female african american artists. She did all the hard work. Yeah, she might not have had number 1 albums with last 3 albums but that wasn't due to her music. That was due to that whole superbowl crap. And I must say that the last 3 albums are much better musical and lyrically than previous albums.

Janet hands down! Beyonce wants to be an icon but Janet is one and for good reason. She actually had original ideas. Many "artists" today copy her style, beyonce included.

Based on sales, it's Janet but is kinda unfair for a basis 'coz back then, people have lot of money. Unlike today that you have to kill for it.

Well I think, Beyoncé can be better than her but she's still on her young age.

She only started her solo career in 2003. Though her NET worth is pretty close enough to Janet's. Imagine how much it'll be when she's in the business for decades like Jackson there.

Anyway, Jackson was hot, but today... so not. Unlike Madonna who still is hot.

Do you know the hard work and effort that goes into that? I've met a lot of celebrities myself and both Janet and Beyonce are very humble. I am far more a Janet fan than B, but I must give credit where it is due. Janet Jackson is a HUGE MEGASTAR OR INTERNATIONAL FAME... and has been for almost 25 years. Beyonce would not be who she is without the trailblazing by Janet.

That being said, Beyonce is a force of her own and I believe she is a more talented singer, but overall Janet is better. But that's also my opinion. Janet will always be my Diva, and Beyonce will be a Diva for her fans.

Let's just bring up Michael for just a second - and not the controversy. Every male superstar is compared to him (like people to Janet: Britney, Mya, Samantha Mumba, Rihanna, etc...) , but he is a big mix of James Brown, Break Dance, & Genius imagination. But do they say who's better Michael or James? NO, they both can coexist. Let Janet be Janet and Beyonce be Beyonce.

Janet has been to the mountain to, set records, opened doors, and left her mark, Beyonce is still making hers... and good for her for doing it!

You know I'm usually a fence-sitter when blog battles break out, but I'm going to have to go with Beet Boy on this one. (And as is also my custom, I'll post identical comments on each blog, lest I be accused of blowing sunshine).

It's not that I don't admire Ms. Knowles' talent, and her hyperbolic anatomy (which is enough to give Malibu Barbie unrealistic self-image issues). It's just that she's only halfway through her "Behind The Musuc" story arc.

Jant Jackson, on the other hand" has completed her pop culture morality play. The highs, the lows, the high-profile hook-ups, the tabloid break-ups, the ill-conceived forays into other media; for better or worse, she's done it all.

So for the time being, Janet sits first-chair in the "naughty hottie" section of the pop culture orchestra.

Of course, once Beyonce travels the inevitable down-swing of her own career she may be able to challenge Janet on an "apples-to-apples" basis.

I'll review the scoring after the 2015 Peoples' Choice Awards, when three Beyonce back-up dancers are injured in a tragic Spanx explosion.

it is quite silly to have an alter ego, unless you're bruce wayne or clark kent. that being said, didn't janet have an alter ego a few years ago. both women are very easy on the eyes. i'm kinda with steve on this one, not much of a dance music fan. i'm a 41 year old white dude, what do i need it for. so suffice to say, i don't have any janet or beyonce on the ole ipod. but, if push came to shove, i'd have to have to side with steve, janet is the better musician, although that's not saying much. it's like picking the lesser of two evils. although, janet has been on a major slide in recent years, ever since the malfunction. none of her post super bowls records have done any kind of business. but she did do the greatness that is black cat, all those years ago. on a side note, did any of ya'll see beyonce's skit on snl with justin timberlake this past saturday, totally hilarious. on the acting front, i've seen more of beyonce in the movies.

sean, what about sammy hagar's new one coming out today, that's the one i'll be picking up. one question, don't the record companies send you the cd's? why on earth would you have to subject steve to listening to the cd on your lunch break, in his car.

I'm going to have to check Spearsy's argument before I climb off this fence. You're declaring ENTERTAINER. An overall package. It's not just about the songs. If it was simply about singing undoubtedly choose JJ. Why? Beyonce' does that stutter/speak vibrato schtick that gets on my nerves 1/4 of the way through the song. When she actually *sings* it's a whole new ball game.
If this was about beauty alone, hands down, Beyonce' would take the prize. She gave cred to babes with thick thighs. Love her for that.
Isn't JJ old enough to be BK's mom? Almost? Maybe just a fabulous aunt.
