In Sean's Mailbox: I love my job, etc.

So I've been cranking out a flurry of fine fluff lately, all of which I'll slime you with soon enough. I finally got my manly chest, with its testosterrific thatches of rugged hair, back on TV. I'm gearing up to record a "bonus feature" for an upcoming Cheap Trick DVD (more on that later). Plus I just had a magical lunch with Steve "Spearsy" Spears, who we almost lost due to a wayward wasabi bomb. He's fine now, but we were seconds away from the kiss of life.

While things are going swimmingly, in the end, all a simple man needs are simple pleasures. And lemme tell you, my mailbox is all about making me happy these days. (Apparently, my mailbox also loves Taylor Swift, as I've been gifted with 4 copies her latest effort.) So here are my newest CDs and such, not counting the digital Chinese Democracy tracks trickling in. And no, there's nothing here from Sammy Hagar, so stop asking. If Sammy's people wanna send me a copy, I'll listen. But I ain't chasing that down, capiche?

Herewith, today's mail...

Johnny Cash -- Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison: Legacy Edition (2CD/DVD, with both concerts from Jan. 13, 1968, plus unreleased cuts, a 90-minute doc and 40 pages of liners, photos and recollections)

Roy Orbison -- The Soul of Rock and Roll (4CD, 107 songs from 1955-1988, 12 previously unreleased songs, 98-page book, white-linen packaging for dorks like me)

Tom Jones -- 24 Hours (total Mark Ronson ripoff, but still fun)
Taylor Swift -- Fearless (who wants a copy?)
Seal -- Soul (all covers, A Change Is Gonna Come)
Various Artists -- Juno Soundtrack: Deluxe Edition (2CD, with "almost adopted songs")

Sam Roberts -- Love at the End of the World
Zac Brown Band -- The Foundations
Scott Weiland -- Happy in Galoshes
Trace Adkins -- X
Maroon 5 -- Call & Response : The Remix Album
Jeff Beck -- Performing This Week...Live at Ronnie Scott's

Sean, if you're interested in hearing Chinese Deocracy, the band is actually streaming the entire album on its MySpace: www.myspace.com/gunsnroses -- in case you didn't know...

I've scored an advance reading copy of Riss's raunchy tome, it's a scorcher and a best seller, for sure! It makes "Hammer of the Gods", Motley Crue's "The Dirt" and Pamela DesBarres books look like Barney sing along books! :)

What's with this surplus of Taylor Swift CDs? If you feel the need to unburden yourself, I have a near 12 year old (2 wks away) boy with an unhealthy Taylor Swift obsession.

check this out, but make sure you're dinner fully been digested

Thanks for the recommendation, tgirl. I'll give 'em a listen. Looks like they'll be buzzing around these parts next Jan and Feb.

Jeff,

I can understand that. I got the last copy at the local music store. It was the only copy they got but it was the last copy.

Check out the Zac Brown Band cd. It's fantastic! Kind of southern rock meets country meets Jimmy Buffett. I saw them here in the 'Burg on a whim almost two years ago and again in Orlando. Incredible musicianship from some Georgia Boys! Enjoy!

I'll ask the boys tomorrow. There's a good chance I'll be interviewing them as a "bonus feature" for an upcoming DVD. I'll be immortalized...well, other than Marissa's shocking tell-all, hitting bookstores in 2010!

i've heard rumblings that cheap trick has a new record in the can, any truth to that?

The Cheap Trick 30th anniversary Budokan box is a beauty: 3CD/DVD, two different shows from that weekend, a full unreleased concert vid, 5.1 SurroundSound, pullout poster. It's a ton of fun. Worth the cash.

I wrote a ton of Cheap Trick stuff for tomorrow's Weekend mag:

Zander & Co. are doing that Sgt. Pepper's show Fri in Clearwater. I think Spearsy might live-blog from backstage.

Sparks,

I can hear the conversation in the CD marketing department...

"Hey, I need a copy of 'Cosmic Universal Fashion' to send to a critic."

"They're all gone. I can't keep them on the shelves. Here, take a Taylor Swift CD instead. I'm up to my eyes in them."

sean
seriously, how is the cheap trick set. i'm thinking of picking it up for xmas

in the immortal words of paul revere, "the redheads are coming, the redheads are coming."

No Sammy!?! See they have you pegged for a Redhead Hater.

*squeeeeeeeee* TOM JONES!!!! Want. And you know how much I totally dig your Mark Ronson recommendation from last year. My innerds are literally aquiver.

Seal? Covers? hmmm lay it on me, big man.

Scott Weiland? oooh. I can't watch him perform, but googily goo! I sure can listen to him sing.
