Tampa Bay Rays free-concert winning streak ends Saturday (the Smash Mouth curse!)

Smashmouth2

The Tampa Bay Rays are 11-0 on free-concert nights, a streak that has gone from cute and curious to pretty flippin’ serious. In the superstitious world of hardball, 11 wins in a row is something with which you just don’t mess. And yet, the Rays are totally doomed this weekend. Why? Listen up. Saturday’s 6:08 p.m. game is against the Oakland A’s. Benign enough, right? The A’s suck! What, Jason Giambi is gonna beat us? Hahaha! However, after the contest, the band Smash Mouth — All-Star, Walkin’ on the Sun, I’m a Believer — will perform a free gig for the masses. Again, they seem like nice enough chaps. But would anyone like to guess from where Smash Mouth hails? That’s right: Northern California, San Jose, 40 miles from Oakland. They might as well be performing in friggin' A’s uniforms!!! That, baseball fans, is called an omen. 12-0? I don't think so. (TICKETS... if you dare.)

Totally whiffed on Spearsy's birthday!

Been a weird month.

I'll take the Big Lug out when he gets home.

Don't be a hater, SD.

The Prodigal Son is back!

(I'd say "Kill the fatted calf", but it's his birthday.)

GAGirl

Hey - where is the musical tie-in blog to mark the aging Mr. Spear's birthday?

Sean Daly

Jeff in who?

Jeff in Cuba

Smashmouth played a show here in GTMO a few months ago, and while the band was really tight (and did a killer Van Halen encore), Steve Harwell's voice sounded awfully beat up. Like an all-you-can-eat buffet after SD's had lunch.

A dubya

Hush your (smash)Mouth, you cheesy animated red tux wearing hack. No pork for you.

CHAD

i know smash mouth had a hit with i'm a believer. it just doesn't seem right listing it with their other hits, without mentioning the monkees. maybe it's just me.
