PODCAST! 'Grosse Pointe Blank' is John Cusack's best movie (and 'High Fidelity' sucks)
The unfairly handsome Stuck in the '80s podcast team of Daly and Spears is back, baby! This month, John Cusack celebrates the 20th anniversary of Say Anything... and the release of disaster-porn epic 2012. So we thought this would be a swell time to honor the Top 10 Flicks of our definitive '80s actor. (Or is he?) Prepare to disagree with everything Sean says RIGHT HERE.

Don't be ridiculous... "Martian Child" all the way, baby! (Double the Cusack, double the pleasure!)

Sean, you are 100% right about Grosse Pointe Blank. What is Steve thinking?

Without having listened to the 'cast yet, I have to say I love HIGH FIDELITY. I cannot stand Catherine Zeta Jones (she's on my "must punch in the face" list) but I dig it. That being said, I love GROSSE POINTE BLANK. I watch every time it's on. Great tunage, excellent reparte between characters.
Not that this will be shocking, but I've had a thing for J.C. since he nerded it up in SIXTEEN CANDLES. (I'm just now beginning to forgive him for MUST LOVE DOGS -- that's gonna take some time.)

i've yet to listen to it (soon, very soon, when i can get off the phones at work) but are you mad man? personally i love high fidelity but i'll come back and comment after listening to it.

Sean there's no need to fear or loathe Rob Gordon's girlfriend for she is not Norse, but rather she is Danish. There is a distinction.

Sorry about the double post.

I love Grosse Pointe Blank, and I think Con Air is a fun, forget about your troubles, popcorn movie. However, I agree with Spearsy about Raising Arizona. I have always hated that movie. (The best Cohen brothers movie to me will always be Miller's Crossing.) Keep singing Sean, we all dig it.

I am with you Daly - Grosse Pointe Blank is a great movie (and I am not a Minnie Driver fan). There are some great people in this movie. Dan Ackroyd is great as the rival hit man. Jeremy Piven is awesome as the old classmate who end up helping him dispose of a bad guy body at the reunion.
I disagree with Spears - Joan's character has to be in the movie. She also has some really witty, fun moments. (I love it when she is pouring the gas to torch the office.)
Also, I have to agree with Spears, I do not usually like Cage's fake accents. However, Raising Arizona? A terrifically hokey, weird and fun movie in which his bad accent works. It has to be bad to match Holly Hunter's take on white trailer trash.
Thank you Sean for sticking up for a few movies I like. Does that make me have bad taste - oh well, I don't care.
Sorry for the wordy blog response but if I sent it to Spears he would ignore like my last few emails.

Yes, Wuenchdog, come to the dark side.

In the battle for my soul between Spears and Daly - Daly wins this round.
I stand up for Con-Air (leave the bunny alone!) as great popcorn entertainment.
Another big agreement with Sean on the Gross Pointe Blank.

"Equally as charming"???
I give up.

Listen to the podcast, Brad. I think I make myself perfectly clear (high, but clear).

Sean - can you use any of your charm to get an interview with JC? Steve, I've not met you but I'm sure you're equally as charming.

No, Sean's serious.
Posted by: Spears | November 06, 2009 at 01:19 PM
Are you high?
I hope that you are just muckraking with that title, Daly.
