Wharton's Nemesis Honored

Three days after snuffing out Wharton's state tournament hopes with a 31-point effort in the Class 5A region finals, WInter Park Lake Howell's Nick Calathes was named a McDonald's All-American.

Calathes, a 6-foot-5 guard who has signed with Florida, enters the 5A state tournament averaging 28 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists. In Saturday's 70-59 triumph against Wharton, he sank all five of his 3-point attempts, including one from roughly 30 feet, after finishing last in the regional 3-point competition that preceded the game.

Wharton "knew how to win," Calathes said after the game. "We knew they were going to come after us from last year (a 72-43 Lake Howell triumph), and they're a great team, and I give it to them. They played really well."

Calathes will represent the East team in the McDonald's All-American Game, set for March 28 at 8 p.m. at Louisville's Freedom Hall.
