Diez Named 5A Coach of the Year

Chamberlain softball coach Bob Diez, who led the Chiefs to the Class 5A state tournament earlier this month, has been named the state's coach of the year for his classification.

The award, sponsored by the Florida Dairy Farmers, was voted on by a statewide panel of coaches and media representatives. Diez is a finalist for overall coach-of-the-year honors following a final round of balloting.

Despite missing two prominent players -- suspended while the state looked into recruiting allegations -- for six weeks, Diez's club still finished 28-3 and won the 12th district title of his 16-year tenure. Chamberlain's season ended with a 5-0 loss to Pace in the 5A semifinals.

I wonder how great a coach Bobbie Diez would be without his recruits. Try coaching girls from your own district for once "coach"

First of all he was not guilty of recruiting. And just let it go there was enough controversy created by disgruntled people which damaged all the players involved especially the two that were suspended.

I do not believe it is appropriate to post personal attacks toward the players. The players are innocent bystanders to the antics of both the parents and coaches and do not deserve to be publicly ridiculed.

I think that you all are absolutely ridiculous. Leave the man alone as well as all his coaches, they have done nothing wrong. All they have done is teach these girls the fundamentals of the sport. This is just pure jealousy, I give Diez and all his coaching staff a big hand for dealing with all the nonsense that has been going on this season. I truly give a big hand to the family of the two girls that had to suffer for the stupidity of other people, this was done to these girls because once again JEALOUS!! Let these coaches and girls be, they are doing their job and doing it will. True he has had girls move on to D1 schools and look how well they are doing. Diez is so loved by his girls that they still go to the games and visit him from time to time. They even invite him to their weddings, etc.This is why he is coach of the YEAR, again..DON'T BE JEALOUS,just give him a big hand.

I'm sorry you feel that these parents have to do something to enhance thier daughters performance, but they need no HELP. Mouse is going to LSU because of her talent and Rodriguez and Medina's girls are at USF becuase of their as well. I recall one of these girls was a two time All-American, so believe me I don't think that they need help. So you need to drop that subject.

You people are so ridiculous. You need to get over the fact that your daughters don't have the opportunity to play for such a great teacher of the game of softball. If Bobby was so hated by his players why do they came back to watch games and visit him, and not to mention come back and coach with him? Yeah, no anwser for that one. You are just jealous because either your kid isn't good enough to play and you think they are or you really have no life but to be upset at someone that never did anything to you. Bobby Diez is a great coach and that is why he got coach of the year. I have heard from numerous college coaches that he would make a great college coach, but he loves doing what he does to help these kids get to the next level. And if you think that he had nothing to do with his players making to the big D1 schools, you couldn't be more wrong. When a college coach sees that your high school coach is Bobby Diez they know you have been coached by one of the greatest coaches in Florida. You immature parents can't see great coaching when it is right in front of your face, maybe you should learn the game before you open your mouth!!

Sounds like you have Bobby's number !!! Wish FHSAA had a clue. And Hillsborough County School Systems. But all know they don't. hee !! hee!!

If you look at the posts, you can tell some people are from the team and some are just people like me who know people on the team and also know the truth.

As for College coaches thinking Bobby is good coach, oh come on, you think thats true. you are so so lost.

His girls as someone put it, hate him. Just watch how they look at him when he's yelling at them !! as for the ones that come back to watch, they just want to see if everyone gets yelled at or was it just them. The Chamberlain coach was brought up for recruiting but was not charged, and as for the two young ladies, they did nothing wrong. I think that was just a way of proving a point to the schools. It was a shame that they stole Freshman year off of the Medina kid and the Sopmore year from the Hartshorn kid. They should be a shamed of themselves. The were treated like criminals for something that the didn't do, now they can never get thaat year back. Sorry girls!!
