Tab soundoff

So, our special preseason football sections are out. What do you think? Send your compliments and praise this way, but not too much on the Pasco tab, that will just embarass me and make me all shy.

Comments

I posted this under the TAKE YOUR PICK, but here you go again.

Okay, since I cant find another thread on this, I must say the Times has attempted to up their game with all of these new on-line features and stuff, no doubt.

Then Friday rolls around, and they only do team previews for just over half the Pinellas county teams. No previews for the following teams is frankly irresponsible reporting, and downright disappointing:

Admiral Farragut
Clearwater
Gibbs
Indian Rocks
Lakewood
Osceola
Palm Harbor
Pinellas Park
Seminole
Shorecrest

Then not to mention some of the school's write-ups look eerily familiar to the exact same write-up you did on them in spring. Just when I am about to give kudos, you show your tail. Poor job guys, very poor!!

I have to agree with 12:19. I expected decent coverage of all the schools. By the way, the team i support was well represented, so this isn't sour grapes!!!

Find something new to talk about at Northeast other than the NEW coach. There are kids there too!

If all those schools mentioned above that received no love in the prewiew boycotted your newspaper you would have included them. A little coverage for all teams is better that what top players have on their myspace page and how often they check it. Points for effort but this preview dropped the ball.

I saw both the Hernando and Pasco editions today and they were both excellent as I expected. Not much more to say about it, good job fellas.
*In the Times defense:
The number of schools in Pinellas county is more than Pasco/Hernando counties combined. I would like to see you guys go out over the course of a few weeks and get an in depth preview prepared for some 30 schools in one county alone. These writers work their butts off. Many Newspapers dont even waste their ink on high school sports. So when you open up the sports section Saturday morning to find scores and stats from high school games all over the Bay area think about how fortunate you are to do so.

Shark - I dropped a $20 in the mail for you.

I picked up a copy of the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday and was pumped to see their high school football preview. They had a centerpiece on 1C, and a full page on the back.
That was the extent of their coverage.
That's crazy when you consider almost 10 million people live here. Friday's section had a tease to latimes.com and a high school football feature. That's it. No previews, no capsules, no features in ink.
Just remember that when you consider we offer four high school football tabs and a full page of high school coverage every day. And we're bringing it hard online with an audiocast, prep video show, team pages, player pages with pictures of almost every kid, and stats for every sport reported in our coverage area. Plus a ton of Web extras you won't find in the paper including this blog.

I could care less about LA, this is FLORIDA, where football rules, not worrying about what the surf looks like. I just need to look at Ft. Myers, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, etc. All of the schools in those areas, with their respective media outlets were very well represented. Face the facts, the coverage in Pinellas was substandard!

I saw Pasco and Hernando, and I saw what was done over in Hillsborough, all very well done. Dont make any excuses, Pinellas coverage failed to deliver!!!
