Boca Ciega fined, reprimanded

Boca Ciega was fined $150 and received a letter of reprimand from the Florida High School Athletic Association for illegally videotaping a football game.

Dixie Hollins filed a formal complaint against Boca Ciega head coach Stevie Thomas for videotaping the Rebels' game against Northeast on Sept. 7.

According to the FHSAA football manual, visiting teams can only “photograph, film or videotape a contestant’s performance …when permission is secured from and arrangements are made with the host school principal.” Same goes for a representative of a school that is not participating in a contest.

Boca Ciega can appeal the decision.

A ruling on Largo will most likely be made Thursday, according to Robert Hernberger, the associate director of communications for the FHSAA.

Way to go Stevie...teach those Pirates what kind of coach you really are! It is sad for the players @ BCHS because they did have an awesome coaching team, before Stevie that is. He is a SRO not a coach! lol

Some of the stuff, especially for new coaches, is just overwhelming. I'd say a $150 dollar fine is definately just saying, "Don't mess up again."

Ask yourself this, how many coaches videotaped their own games when they went and played at other schools? Almost all. Well, that is technically a violation. You must have permission from the host school to tape your own game! I'd say 99% of the coaches violated that rule.

Smartest move Gordon ever made was getting out of Pinellas County. Let's revisit Bogie in a few years to see what Stevie has done with the program. Only time will tell.

The violations were actually reported seperately. Bogie's incident happened well before largos. My guess is that Largo's punishment is either the same or less since Rodriguez wasn't personally filming the game like Thomas was.

If you all had your facts right...you would have known that Thomas was not actually doing the filming, but an assistant coach was. That's right, I forgot all of you who are making these comments were great coaches or players in your time that's why you criticize because you have nothing better to do in your lilttle world...GET OFF BOGIE.. dip-sticks....

My son plays for Coach Thomas and loves playing for him----oh yeah, he's white. Coach Thomas has been a disciplinarian when necessary and is fair and just in his decisions. If you were ever to attend a Bogie practice on a regular basis you would hear that character outside of football, academics and hard work are the basic tennants of his coaching.
So far as the filming incident goes, it was a mistake that won't happen again, the school got fined, so let it go. Fact of the matter is, Bogie has the longest current win streak in the county (dating back to last season) and they are in the hunt for the district title and a trip to the play-offs. Not bad for only his second year of coaching. Keep up the good work Coach Thomas and the rest of the crew!!! Beat NE.

Thomas stepped up and said it was a mistake. They did not know the rule. Did not lie, handed over the tape and said it wont happen agin. My bad.

Largo has lied about the situation and never taken resposability.

A winning streak means nothing if you don't go to the playoffs......who cares? Get to the playoffs Bogie and then you can brag a bit.

I was at the Dixie NorthEast game and saw Stevie filming and went and to ld the Coaches in the box. So we have our story straight this time. You need to get yours straight it sounds like. Stevie could not even handle coaching youth football when he was at the bandits how can he handle a highschool job. He and his rag bag staff is a joke.

Who are the coaches at Bogie anyway? I heard they are a collection of staff members and parents just helping out. A few youth coaches and former players hanging around practice. I think they have Ned the wine-o working with the secondary. Their best player is the kicker. They beat average teams in close games. St. Pete with the upset!

It is not bragging, just stating fact. I believe the win streak is up to 5 games since last season (of course not counting spring where they humiliated Gibbs and the fall classic where they beat Blake). Teams need to learn to win and they are learning.
You're right, the most productive player has been the kicker. The last time I checked the points the kicker gets is part of the team and part of the offense. What's your point? That three points is somehow evidence of a bad team. If you score 12 and you give up 3 you stil win right? Remember they had to move the ball well enough to get into field goal position. So if the offense can ever get on track Bogie will be a force to be dealt with. The defense is legit.
Bogie lost to Northeast in OT 34-28 in week 8, beat Bradenton Bayshore (41-7) in week 9 and then beat St. Pete (14-10) in week 10. Those two wins and the three this season make it 5 in a row.
St Pete will be tough because Coach Fabrizio is a good coach and they will be ready. It will be a battle.
Why all the anger? Can't you just be a high school football fan and recognize a coach who is doing a good job and let it go?

Wow 5 wins in a row including last season. there are other teams that have not lost a game since last year. Who cares about last season stop living in the past stevie had nothing to do with those wins last year he had a few players. If he was such a great coach he would have made sure his best player was qualified to take his d-1 offers last year.

Stevie like Otis only got their spots at head coach because they were popular names. Not because they have great coachong experience. Administrators at these schools think that kids will want to play for them because of who they are.

I never said Stevie was taping his own game. If you read what I wrote, which you obviously didn't, I was simply saying that most coaches were breaking a different rule and didn't even know it. So, it's illegal to tape your own game on the road without permission from the opposing school. Virtually every coach broke that rule and didn't know it. Stevie was taping a game he wasn't involved in, so that is more severe. The only point being made was most coaches broke a rule they didn't even know about.

Bill - every county coach knows they cannot tape upcoming opponent games - EVERY coach! Pleading ignorance doesnt cut it.

The biggest joke is the policy Fhsaa has. In Texas, you can video tape your opponents without permission. Think of the problems you could solve. No more bad tapes of games. Getting Exactly the width of the game and etc. Also, not having to trade in the A. M. Maybe Florida needs to get into the 21st century.
