Chinchar to step down at AHN after season

Chinchar424248Academy of the Holy Names volleyball coach Doug Chinchar said this will be his last season as the school's coach.

Chinchar, 37, who played college volleyball at Ohio State, is in his 8th season at AHN. His career record heading into this weekend's Berkeley Premier is 129-55. Chinchar, who lives in Land O'Lakes and works fulltime at a Tampa drug testing lab, said he wanted to spend more time with his two-year-old daughter, Naomi.

"It was a hard, hard, hard decision," Chinchar said Thursday. "But I don't want to be burned out with my daughter so young. I sometimes go two days without seeing her."

Jason Brochard, AHN's JV coach the past three seasons, will take over for Chinchar next year.

It's about time. he vould never beat Berkley anyway. Basketball is the real sport at Holy Names

Doug is a great coach in high school level and club. I am sure he will be missed-enjoy that baby all you can coach!!

you've come a long way since your LBI days...CONGRATULATIONS!

Both Doug and Sarah spent endless hours helping our daughter receive a full ride to a Division I college. The Chinchar coaching tradition will be missed.

Coach Cinchar taught us not only about how to play on the court but also how to play off the court. Here is an example of what this year's Varsity team is doing to raise money for breast cancer:

Both the Cougars and the Jags will be wearing pink in a sisterly show of support for the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation.
