Mitchell WR Hendrix and QB Humphrey will play vs. Gaither

Mitchell quarterback Tate Humphrey and wide receiver Tyrone Hendrix both practiced today and are expected to play in the Mustangs' district opener against Gaither Friday night. Humphrey missed last week's 36-27 loss to Hudson with a sprained ankle, while a woozy Hendrix left the field late in the game.

Mitchell coach Scott Schmitz said he wasn't sure what, exactly, Hendrix was suffering from Friday night. Initially, the coaching staff thought it was a concussion, but after reviewing the game film, they couldn't find a play on which the wide receiver had hit his head. Instead, Schmitz said he thinks it was dehydration - Hendrix played just about every snap on offense and defense until his injury.

The Mustangs will need their two most explosive players if they hope to reverse their recent history against Gaither. Gaither out-scored Mitchell a combined 69-0 in 2005 and 2006.

Hendrix has seven catches for 184 yards and three touchdowns this season. Humphrey has completed 67 percent of his passes, throwing for 661 yards and seven touchdowns with just one interception. He is also among the county's leading rushers, averaging 90 yards per game.

Well, that was nice of them to spend their afternoon looking up all these stats and posting their thoughts anonymously. Good job though.
With those games I would pick:
Gaither
Wharton
Tarpon
Z'hills
Ridgewood
Hudson
Gulf

Not bad.

Want a job?

Gaither (3-2) at Mitchell (2-2)

Mitchell needs Humphrey and Hendrix to be at their best if they are to pose a threat to Gaither. Gaither running back Jarvis Giles ( 117 att 785 yds 12 TD ) has been on a roll of late and must be contained. Mitchell has been been modest at best versus the run, allowing big games to running backs David williams ( 17 att 205 yds ) and Sean Scott ( 18 att 150 yds ).

wharton (3-2) at Wesley Chapel (3-2)

Wesley chapel is not at full strength, without starting quarterback Greg Jenkins. Look for Wesley Chapel running backs Hunter Joyer, Josh Browne, and Keenan Reynolds to step up in place of Greg Jenkins absence. Wharton quarterback Andrew Clifford ( 31-53 570yds 2 TD ) has played well, with running back Marquis Thomas ( 75 att 390 yds ) also carrying the load on the ground.

Tarpon Springs (3-1) at Land O'Lakes (4-1)

Tarpon Springs coming off a 21-14 loss to Countryside, looks to end Land O'Lakes 4 game winning streak and start off 2-0 in district play. With the return of running back Chris Singleton, the Gators running game adds a new demension to their offense. Watch out for top receiving threat in Pasco County Jerome Harrison ( 22 catches 347 yds ) to come up big in this game.

Pasco (2-3) at Zephryhills (3-1)

The 9 mile rivalry comes earlier then usual compared to the past couple years, but both teams have ample of talent all over the field. Zephryhills scatback Chris Henry ( 72 att 595 yds 5TD ) has been the workhorse for the Bulldogs offense so far this season, but on the other side of the ball Quetin Amos has been a menace to opposing offenses. Not good news for Pirates back Jamaal Haynes. Pirates quarterback D.J. Clower must be effective through the air for Pasco to win this game.

Ridgewood (4-0) at River Ridge (1-3)

Since losing 42-26 to Gulf, River Ridge has not been able to spark their high flying offense back into gear. River Ridge quarterback Blake Spinks has to lead the Royal Knights offensive and get wideouts Markel Bell and Lance Babcock involved early. Ridgewood's offense the past two weeks has been two words, Bryonell Arline. Arline the past two weeks has posted unheard of numbers, rushing for 670 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns the past two games. The River Ridge defense has a daunting task in stopping the " Arline Express."

Wiregrass Ranch (0-5) at Hudson (2-2)

Hudson has been a team on the rise this fall and look to continue rising versus Wiregrass. Cobras quarterback Zack Wynn had a career game versus the Mustangs last week, and might be able to top that against a youthful Bulls defense. The Bulls will have to rely on the scrambling ability of quarterback Angel Rodriguez for them to be successful on offense. Look out for Hudson running back Sean Scott to have a big game.

Sunlake (0-4) at Gulf (2-3)

With the leading rusher in the Tampa Bay area, Gulf running back David Williams ( 116 att 1220 yds 14 Td ) just tearing through defenses left and right, Sunlake must find a way to stop Williams. Gulf has inserted 6'6 300 pound Leon Orr at fullback, blocking for backs will Burbridge and David williams. Sunlake's defense has made progress the past 2 weeks in the first half holding Land O'Lakes to 13 first half points last week and holding Zephryhills to 14 the week before.
