TIMES TOP 50
Week 5
1. (1) Armwood (5-0)
Friday: beat No.12 Jefferson 26-9.
This week: at Tampa Bay Tech.
Jefferson linebacker Gorby Loreus said his Dragons wanted to send a message to Armwood that it was beatable. The Hawks never got it, apparently.
2. (2) Largo (4 -0)
Friday: beat No.7 Dunedin 37-71 in 2OT.
This week: at Pinellas Park.
There's not too much standing in between the Packers and 8-0. Just QB Leonard Johnson's balky ankle and the next four opponents, who are a combined 4-14.
3. (3) Hillsborough (4-0)
Friday: beat No.14 Riverview 35-0.
This week: at Freedom.
Sharks running back Jahleel Addae called the Terriers' defense the Great Wall of China. So what he's saying, if we're hearing correctly, is that you can actually see the it from the moon. Now that is impressive.
4. (4) Plant (3-1)
Friday: DNP.
This week: at Blake.
Poor Plant. They guys had no game to play this week, so they had to stay home and play video ... what? Huh? They all got to go the USF game? Lucky dogs.
5. (5) Northeast (4-0)
Friday: DNP.
Next week: vs. Boca Ciega.
The Vikings needed the week of rest before this week's big game with Bogie. But we hear RB Jeff Brinson (pictured above) went out to the field Friday night and ran its full length three times anyway. Just for kicks.
6. (6) Ridgewood (4-0)
Friday: beat No.43 Gulf 49-34.
This week: at River Ridge.
Okay, so maybe our nickname for RB Byronell Arline hasn't caught on - the kids at Ridgewood seem to prefer the "Arline Express" - but after his 343-yard, seven-touchdown performance Friday, we may still be able to unload some of these "Look out! Here comes Big Daddy Delicious Destruction!" T-shirts we had printed up.
7. (8) Boca Ciega (4-0)
Friday: beat St. Petersburg 28-0.
This week: at Northeast.
Bogie quarterback Orhian Johnson still hasn't had his breakout game yet. If we had to pick a good time for it, we'd pick Friday!
8. (9) Chamberlain (2-2)
Friday: beat No.20 East Bay 31-0.
This week: at Sickles.
You think coaching has nothing to do with it? Well, without Billy Turner, Chamberlain only scored a 28-0 victory last week. With Turner back Friday, the Chiefs scored 31 points. Case closed.
9. (7) Dunedin (3-2)
Friday: lost to No.2 Largo 37-31 in 2OT.
This week: at Largo.
In the past two weeks, it has become official: Adaris Bellamy's name can be mentioned with the very best. Here, you try it. Breathe in, aaaand: JeffBrinsonBrynnHarveyByronellArlineEricSmithAdarisBellamy. Whew. That was tougher than we thought.
10. (11) Gaither
Friday: beat No.25 Jesuit 35-14.
This week: at Mitchell.
Hey Cowboys, welcome to the No.10 spot. I'm not going to say it's cursed, but our previous No.10s are 1-3-1, with Bogie the only one that managed to move up, and that was its bye week. So, yeah, have fun with that.
11. (13) Middleton (3-2)
Last week: defeated Blake 40-0
This week: idle.
Coach Harry Hubbard says Tigers are starting to jel. Blake's response: What do you mean "starting to?".
12. (17) Newsome (4-1)
Last week: defeated Robinson 35-6.
This week: at Brandon.
Wolves's showdown at Brandon will be for east Hillsborough supremacy. Oh wait, Armwood's in east Hillsborough.
13. (16) Brandon (3-2)
Last week: defeated Durant 49-38
This week: vs Newsome.
Eagles, who have equaled their 2006 win total, amassed more than 500 total yards against Durant.
14. (12) Jefferson (1-3)
Last week: lost to No. 1 Armwood 26-9.
This week: at Leto.
Three of Dragons' first four opponents currently are ranked in our top 10.
15. (18) Alonso (4-1)
Last week: beat Freedom 41-0.
This week: vs. King
We're starting to believe Ravens' Mike Heldt may be one of Hillsborough County's most underrated coaches.
16. (10) Tarpon Springs (3-1)
Last week: Beat River Ridge 37-0.
This week: vs. Countryside.
Only top 10 team that has beaten two teams not even in the Top 50. So that's not a ringing endorsement, but our top 10 teams keep losing, and the Spongers keep winning.
17. (15) Durant (2-3)
Last week: lost 49-38 to Brandon.
This week: vs. Sarasota.
Cougars' top receiver is Royce Rose. We just like saying that name.
18. (22) East Lake (3-2)
Last week: beat Pinellas Park 28-13.
This week: Bye.
Have week off before taking on Northeast.
19. (28) Countryside (3-2)
Last week: beat Tarpon Springs 21-14.
This week: vs. Palm Harbor University.
Cougars still looking for QB of future, but winning while they do.
20. (23) Land O’Lakes (4-1)
Last week: beat Sunlake 26-0.
This week: vs. Tarpon Springs.
Nine points allowed and two shutouts in last three weeks.
21. (19) Riverview (1-3)
Last week: lost 35-0 to No. 3 Hillsborough.
This week: at Sarasota Riverview.
That shutout of injury-depleted Plant City really starting to look like an aberration.
22. (19) Plant City (3-2)
Last week: lost to Wharton 15-14
This week: at East Bay.
Plant City had 5 passing yards last week; East Bay had none. Translation: The Raiders-Indians game should end, oh, around 9 p.m.
23. (21) Gibbs (3-2)
Last week: lost to Clearwater 15-7.
This week: at St. Petersburg.
Who was the knucklehead that predicted Gibbs would be 7-1 heading into Largo game?
Last week: lost to Fort Meade 21-3.
This week: vs. Berkeley Prep.
Only scored 10 points last two weeks.
25. (25) Jesuit (3-2)
Last week: lost to Gaither 35-14.
This week: vs. Sarasota Booker.
Tigers tough schedule could pay dividends down the road.
26. (31) Tampa Catholic (3-1)
Last week: DNP.
This week: vs. St. Petersburg Catholic.
Stingy defense could get a test from Barons, who have scord 66 points the last two weeks.
27. (30) Zephyrhills (3-1)
Last week: beat Wesley Chapel 24-17.
This week: vs. Pasco.
One final-play-of-game-Hail-Mary away from being undefeated.
28. (NR) Sickles (4-1)
Last week: beat Bloomingdale 24-6.
This week: vs. Chamberlain.
Dear Sickles, Sorry we left you out last week. Hope this means we can be friends again. Sincerely, Times Poll Guy. P.S. Did you get the flowers?
29. (29) Wharton (3-2)
Last week: beat Plant City 15-14 (OT)
This week: at Wesley Chapel.
Wildcats take on Wildcats this week in a game so close, Wharton will walk to it.
30. (20) East Bay (1-4)
Last week: lost 31-0 to Chamberlain
This week: vs. Plant City
Overheard on Indians sideline Friday night at Chamberlain: "Man, these plays aren't working." Profound words, indeed.
31. (33) Nature Coast (3-1)
Last week: Beat Pasco 13-10.
This week: at Lecanto.
Sharks swim back into Citrus County this week, home of their only loss. Careful, fellas.
32. (27) Tampa Bay Tech (4-1)
Last week: lost to Spoto 21-18
This week: vs Armwood.
Titans must lick their wounds quickly -- they host No. 1 Armwood Friday night.
33. (32) Central (3-2)
Last week: beat Lecanto 41-7.
This week: vs. Springstead.
Beat Lecanto, but let Panthers get a season-high in points.
34. (36) Hudson (2-2)
Last week: beat Mitchell 36-27.
This week: vs. Wiregrass Ranch.
Cobras 1-2 punch of QB Zack Wynn and RB Sean Scott has rolled up 108 points in last three games.
35. (37) Lakewood (2-2)
Last week: DNP.
This week: vs. Bradenton Bayshore.
Spartans' defense haven't allowed any opponent to score more than 14 points this season.
36. (38) Clearwater(3-2)
Last week: beat Gibbs 15-7.
This week: vs. Dunedin.
Pass-happy Tornadoes can still resort to old-fashioned Bostic Ball when they have to.
37. (34) Wesley Chapel (3-2)
Last week: lost to Zephyrhills 21-14.
This week: vs. Wharton.
Injury to QB Greg Jenkins, if serious, would be some seriously bad news.
38. (42) Osceola (2-3)
Last week: beat Seminole 43-7.
This week: vs. Bradenton Southeast.
Nothing says Get Well Soon better than winning against your neighborhood rivals.
39. (39) Keswick (4-0)
Last week: Beat Cambridge 28-7.
This week: vs. Calvary Christian.
Held to season-low in points, and still wins by 21. Nice.
40. (39) Pasco (2-3)
Last week: Lost to Nature Coast 13-10.
This week: at Zephyrhills.
Now 0-2 in games they score only 10 points.
42. (41) Dixie Hollins (0-4)
Last week: Beat PHU 37-34.
This week: vs. Seminole.
Rebels win the first-ever "Stay In The Poll" Bowl...barely.
43. (27) Mitchell (2-2)
Last week: lost to Hudson 36-27.
This week: vs. Gaither.
Great offense, but defnese has allowed 30+ points nine times in last 14 games.
43. (48) Northside Christian (3-1)
Last week: beat Orlando First Academy 35-12.
This week: at Admiral Farragut.
One failed two-point conversion away from OT away from a possible upset away from being unbeaten.
Last week: Lost to Lake Highland Prep 27-17.
This week: at CCC.
Bucs blow 17-0 lead thansk to seven turnovers. Yuck.
45. (43) Gulf (2-3)
Last week: lost to Ridgewood 49-34.
This week: vs. Sunlake.
Reprieve this week for Buc defense, which tries to stop an offense that has scored once.
46. (45) Springstead (2-2)
Last week: DNP.
This week: at Central.
Didn't score again this week, but at least had bye week to use as excuse.
47. (46) Hernando (1-3)
Last week: DNP.
This week: at Crystal River.
Have had to stew over 35-3 loss to Wesley Chapel for two weeks now.
48. (NR) Spoto (3-2)
Last week: Beat Tampa Bay Tech 21-18.
This week: Bye.
Has more wins than all other first-year teams combined.
49. (NR) Leto (2-3)
Last week: Beat Lennard 28-6.
This week: vs. Jefferson.
Probably just a one-week stop in poll with Jefferson next, but Falcons have equaled 2006 win total.
50. (NR) Shorecrest (3-2)
Last week: Beat Mount Dora 56-8.
This week: vs. Indian Rocks Christian.
Only losses are to teams ranked in their respective classifications.
Who got disrespected? Who got overrated? Or did we nail them all? Let us know.

go ridgewood!!!!!!!!!!! 5-0 .. Byronell ARLINE "arline express" is still rollin !!!!!!!!!!!

Bulldogs beat Pasco in tough defensive battle. What a game, was worth missing the first half of heroes. Also shout out to Gaither, wtg beating Mitchell. BTW, did they ever finish that Plant - Blake game, hate to say I said so, but OUCH. Anyhoo, next up is Gulliver Prep??? I can't even find them on the standings, does anyone have any insight on this team? Where are they from? Oh well, at least it's a home game. Z-Hills B-Dogs #1

A JV COACH GAVE HIM THAT NICK NAME WIN HE FIRST CAME OUT TO PRACTICE CAUSE HE COULD NOT REMEMBER HIS NAME.
Posted by: | October 07, 2007 at 12:09 PM
Bogie had some misfortune last night.A dry game would have a different outcome. Bogie has better team speed and pounded evenly with NE. Look at the photos the Times took of this game, Brinson stripping Francis is the difference cause #2 was gone! Good win for the Vikings. NE, Largo and Bogie...the class of Pinellas this season.
Posted by: Vikings Packers...only good one left! | October 07, 2007 at 12:48 AM
How did he get the nickname TINY with a body like that?
Posted by: | October 06, 2007 at 11:04 PM
He hasn't been racking up the numbers, has he? Maybe the paper should focus on Bogie's defense, which is how they are winning games. Until last night, Bogie hasn't played a "really" good team so those offensive yards should be better than they are. They should easily slide through the rest of their schedule and based on all the hype, we should see some spectacular offensive numbers.
Posted by: fb | October 06, 2007 at 10:41 PM
The Northeast- Boca Ciega game was a great one.
NE's two right tackles mentioned above are Senior Jimmy Bush, and Junior Admir "Tiny" Mujakovic. At TE they have a similar setup with Shaq and Edwin Mercedes. With them rotating a fresh lineman and tight end in it keeps the 44 power, Northeast's bread and butter, intact throughout the game.
No offense Bogie fans, but I don't think Ohrian has the arm for the next level. He's got a cannon but his accuracy is a mystery. It was a wet night, so that probably played a factor too, but I just wasn't impressed with a guy that has an offer from Ohio State.
Posted by: Spectator | October 06, 2007 at 09:30 PM
If you missed the NE-BC game last night you missed the best game in recent history. 16-13 says nothing for the way these two teams played. This boys were out there knocking the crud out of each other. Brinson lost his helmet on a run play and continued to run right into to a pile head first. this was a total team effort by both teams.
Who ever says Johnson is the best player on Bogies team is sadly mistaken that #2 is by far the fastest and most athletic kid on the field. The two big d tackles for bogie should get defensive mvp's. They were great at slowing down the pulling guards of the NE offense. Which in turn slows down Jeff and the rest of the plethra of backs NE showed last night.
The #34 of NE is a great linebacker and even better fullback. NE showed about 5 or 6 different running backs last night of course Brinson getting the most touches. The helmet coming off is where NE jsut started rolling over bogies front 8 sometimes 11 in the box..
SIDE NOTE
NE has these two right tackles that they just kept rotating in I bet they are atleast 6'3" and 6'4" all over 300lbs maybe 320lbs and a TE thats 6'4" 300 atleast no wonder they run right all the time. I would too. Jeff said it correct a few weeks ago he is just going along for the ride after watching last nights game.

Posted by: me | October 05, 2007 at 11:20 PM
every one is saying trahs and want to be ranked higher then other teams, and we here at wiregrass ranch are jsut tryin to compete with the giants. pasco vs zhills should be a great game. alos excited to see lake gibson vs lakeland. wharton vs chapel should be a great game too
Posted by: da stampede | October 05, 2007 at 07:39 PM
I would have to agree. Although it is true that Blake has played some tough teams, two shutouts in a row and losing 40-0 makes it hard for anyone to see the light at the end of that tunnel. And I would personally love to see them beat Plant tonight, want everyone ranked higher then us to loose, lol, I am afraid it will be Blake 0-6. That is hard for any team to come back from. But good luck tonight, if you guys ever needed a win it is now.
Posted by: ZHS BDfan | October 05, 2007 at 03:01 PM
Don't sleep on Blake's 0 - 5 record!!hahaha LOL! Are you serious! Football fans are sippin on Nyquil in the stands. Their so weak, Academy of Holy Name can beat'em. Maybe even Shorecrest. 0 - 5 WOW! I have heard it all.
Posted by: !! | October 05, 2007 at 01:34 PM
Z-Hills vs. Pasco. They beat L-O-L but lost to Wesley Chapel. We beat Wesley Chapel but lost to L-O-L (lucky hail mary thingy) Should be a good match up. B-dogs, watch for the long passes from Pasco, they have a couple good receivers. Even so, it's our house, and we shouldn't have much trouble stopping the runs and pressuring the QB. I predict Z-Hills winning 28-17.
Oh, and a shout out to my old school, Gaither. I hope you beat Mithell tonight, ahem, we did. And we also beat Wesley Chapel for you, your welcome. Now it's up to you. Good Luck!

There is no way Dunedin is going to win their district. GO CT!!!
Posted by: | October 05, 2007 at 07:45 AM
The Packers will be waiting for you Falcons
Posted by: Largo Fan | October 04, 2007 at 11:06 AM
I really doubt that Largo and Dunedin will see each other again in the playoffs. They will probably both win their districts, so that means they wouldn't see each other until the 3rd of the playoffs. I doubt both teams make it to the 3rd round of the playoffs.
Posted by: | October 04, 2007 at 08:33 AM
Northeast has more points scored in the first four games than anyone in the bay area with 150 and the next closest is Armwood with 146 in 4.
Posted by: | October 04, 2007 at 08:12 AM
T. U sound like ur from IRC. Sry we took ur spot at #50. Don't worry, u'll get ur turn in the box with Fort Meade. I wish u luck against em. Really! U'll have fun 4 sure! C U Fri!
Posted by: Chrgr | October 03, 2007 at 08:59 PM
Alonso beat blake 20-7 and if their offense was better and would ste up to yhe level of their defense...they would have murked blake...
Look what they did to hillsbourough the number two team 17-0....defense held them to no first half touchdowns...a team that scored 35 on middleton
Posted by: | October 03, 2007 at 08:51 PM
dont sleep on blakes 0-5 record only lost to alonso, jesuit , plant city by touch downs
Posted by: bob | October 03, 2007 at 08:39 PM
To all CT fans enjoy the Falcons show. Bellamy will run all over their defense and Anderson will pass all over their defense. I think Dunedin has learn their lesson from last year game when they stop playing in the second half, the kid Mike Towns will shut down Sackman who will not have over 50 yards receiveing. Go Falcons and Largo the Falcons will see yall in the playoffs.
Posted by: Falcon Fan | October 03, 2007 at 08:37 PM
Is noone speaking about the Bulldogs, you know, the team that should be undefeated. We are moving up in the ranks! I'll give credit where it is due, L-O-L defense was tough, but it's hard to loose by luck. Would love to see a rematch, maybe post season? You do know that we play Ridgewood the last game of the season. Should be a good one to watch. Would love to see the dogs make the "Arline Express" come to a screeching halt. Hey, not sayin it will be easy, but looking at their schedule, we may be the only ones that can. And to all you winers out there, lay off Cotey a bit, I for one think he's doing a great job. Peace, and go Zephyrhills!!!
Posted by: ZHS BDfan | October 03, 2007 at 03:53 PM
How can you put a team in your top 50 that lost 63-0 (Shorecrest)? Are the other schools in the area that bad?
Posted by: T | October 03, 2007 at 11:35 AM
Way to talk some crap, Jeltema. Now make sure you and your teamates back it up and don't have a meltdown as you did against East Lake. You can't afford anymore district losses.
Posted by: Frankie G. | October 03, 2007 at 11:33 AM
Sooooo sick of the Jeff Brinson show. NE has so many players who are better athletes than Brinson. Go watch a game and see the kids that play both sides of the ball, play any position they are told to play and play their hearts out until the end. Give some credit to the other players for NE that don't get the favortism and special treatment Brinson gets. In four years of high school football, Brinson hasn't finished a season yet. Kudos to all the NE players who have held your heads high and played hard even though your name isn't Brinson! Go Vikes!!!
Posted by: | October 03, 2007 at 10:02 AM
look after we beat dunedin we will finally get the respect we deserve and gibbs is overated and hey NO luck your mama cant help you on friday and after we destroy you your probably ganna go home sit down and cry to mama and then transfer to a differnt school just like last year SO COME GET SOME
Posted by: jelt | October 03, 2007 at 09:33 AM
Y-Hate...is that you? Pirates will be ready. Defense is fearless. Lakewood(-46 yards rushing) Brinson in for his toughest test. NE defense is average. Heard Bogie is breaking out some double secret Arenaball plays for this one? Tickets are going fast!
Posted by: Y-Hate in the hoooooouuuussse! | October 03, 2007 at 07:24 AM
Northeast can pass the ball when they need to, but not a lot of times have put them in that position where they have to.
Posted by: | October 03, 2007 at 06:49 AM
Listen people Northeast will not beat Bogie or Largo. Northeast haven't palyed anybody and I mean nobody. Brandenton, Gibbs, St.Pete and who ever else is a joke. My grandmother who is a 200 pounder can run for 300 yards on those teams. Northeast offense is so easy to stop, please tell me how you can not stop a team who you know cant pass and you know who is going to get the ball, but I feel sorry for those coaches who players are scared to tackle a big runningback. Bogie will win because NEHI is one dimentional.
Posted by: | October 02, 2007 at 10:53 PM
Bogie's got no offense. NE will kill them. They haven't done much against average teams this year, so why would you think they'd beat a really good team?
Posted by: fb fan | October 02, 2007 at 06:14 PM
Because they are Sickles.....since they are always horrendous, a 4-1 record means nothing. Sort of like all of the BCS teams that play terrible yet still stay in the top of the rankings....in reverse. Good for Sickles......hope the school is enjoying the better season this year.
Posted by: | October 02, 2007 at 04:26 PM
can you please tell me why sickles has to be down in #28 and chambo is #8 when sickles is 4-1?
Posted by: edward williams | October 02, 2007 at 03:49 PM
Brinson runs wild. Bogie should be lucky this beating is not televised. At least another 300 yard game for the greatest rusher in Pinellas county. Will easily smash Dexter's record. NEHI is the real deal. Going to run over Largo too! Harvey who?
Posted by: | October 02, 2007 at 02:50 PM
Gibbs is so overrated. Their coach needs to learn how to speak English.
What a disgrace the coaching staff and team are to the alumni.
I am embarrassed.
Posted by: Gibbs sucks | October 02, 2007 at 01:56 PM
Regardless of who covers the game, make sure you are at the Bogie/NE game this week. There will be 2-3000 people there watching what could be the game of the year in this county. Two undefeated teams in the same district, with play-off implications for both.
It will be a battle and there will be MONSTER hits all night long.
Brinson better bring some Aleve, because he will earn every single yard this week and Johnson better get on his bike becasue the pressure will be intense.
Prediction----Bogie wins the low scoring defensive battle. NE will win if they score 21 or more.
Posted by: | October 02, 2007 at 11:18 AM
Why isn't Northeast-Bogie the Catch 47
Game of the Week? I know Lake Gibson vs. Lakeland is an attractive match up but Catch 47 is billed as Tampa Bay's sports channel. NE has star runner Brinson and Bogie hypes a defense giving up a little over 7 points a game.A classic match up.The Times doesn't even cover those teams they are so far away. More disrespect for Pinellas county
I AGREE 100%
Posted by: Blah | October 02, 2007 at 11:08 AM
jefferson is 1-3 and their only win came against Robinson, that is Robinson who also lost to Leto!
Posted by: giles-d-man | October 02, 2007 at 10:47 AM
How is Chamberlain ranked ahead of a team that beat them.......Middleton? Plus very few teams have as tough of a schedule as Middleton.
Posted by: Kenny | October 02, 2007 at 09:48 AM
Wow 10:04, you ever stop to think that Tarpons turnovers were caused by Cside. Also Cside made alot of mistakes or the score wouldve been Tarpon gettin blown out...Tarpon is the most overrated team on the list!

once the 8 players get back ( this week ) for ccc i am sure you will see a big change in the offense all 8 were on the offense side but the defense played up and did a great job.
Posted by: | October 02, 2007 at 05:38 AM
Yeah I have heard of Crystal River, they have 3 potential D-I prospects, including Akron commit Kyle Roddenberry ( defensive end ). Quarterback Shay Newcomer and WR/RB/DB Ronnie Baldner are also being looked at by numerous divison I colleges.
Posted by: AV | October 02, 2007 at 01:50 AM
Central below Nature Coast and Nature Coast lost to Crystal River. At least Central lost to two good teams. Orlando areas top 10 team by 7 and then Ridgewood. They deserve more credit than they are given. Has anyone ever heard of Crystal River?????

Dreadnaughts #1 again....duh
Posted by: mark | October 02, 2007 at 12:00 AM
hey osceola found a running back in cameron and junior qb dylan lantz has 5 td in 11 completionsd, to bad he has had a slew of dropped ones 3 being td's. defense finnaly stopped the bleeding after allowing over 100 points in 3 games. thet deserved to move up 4 spots and after they beat southeast(I predict breakout game for Lantz 3td/s coming friday). coach palmer doing great, next season whole offense coming back buy one.
Posted by: bigfanman | October 01, 2007 at 10:12 PM
Bogie is a team to be reckoned with this season. I feel that the defense is going to win this game for the Pirates. Watch out Brinson, here comes those Pirates. They are looking to take Northeast's gold, and from what I am hearing, its you. Be prepared to go 4-1.....as Bogie moves to 5-0.

Countryside is the wrost team ever if tarpon didnt come out over confident they would have killed them ( Also the 4 turnovers hurt Tarpon but they are way better than the SUCKY Cougars)
