Armwood-Plant predictions

We asked some of the county's football coaches to take a stab at predicting the winner of Friday's highly anticipated Armwood-Plant game. Here are their selections:

Robinson coach Mike DePue: Armwood 24-21. "If Armwood keeps Plant off the field, they can win. But if their offense can't stay on the field for sustained drives, Plant wins."

Tampa Bay Tech coach C.C. Culpepper: Plant 28-17. "What I saw Plant do against Northeast in the passing game, I think they'll be able to do against Armwood,"

Blake coach Sean Washington: Armwood 28-27. "Plant has improved since the first game. It's hard to beat teams twice, but I'm going to go with Armwood because they're playing at home."

Durant coach Mike Gottman: Armwood 35-31: "Armwood played them early on and played very well defensively. Armwood's defense has always been extremely tough to handle and Plant found that out."

King coach Earl Garcia III: Armwood 27-19: "Armwood is too fast and too physical."

Gaither coach Mark Kantor: Armwood 27-24. "It's a tale of two different teams. One is going to run. One is going to sit back and throw with five wideouts."

Newsome coach Kenneth Hiscock: Armwood 28-23. "Armwood has a lot of athletes. They've got all aspects of the game."

Hillsborough coach Earl Garcia Jr.: Armwood 21-20. "It's an absolute toss up. I'm picking Armwood only because it's at their place."

Coach Culpepper showed how much he knows when his team got shut-out by Mulberry, yes that powerhouse Mulberry!

Culpepper- The DB coach Armwood has now has done a better job than the previous coach. Just look at the results.

How about some predictions from the fans- My prediction- Armwood35 Plant 10

First of all, what a great game it's going to be! It will basically come down to who will execute better at what they do. Armwood-running the ball, Plant-passing the ball. On the defensive side, who will play better, Armwood's secondary or Plant's run defense? It will be a battle, I'm sorry, a war in the trenches. Armwood may have more high profile guys, but Plant also has some fearless/tough players. There will be no throwing in the towel, it will be tough to the bitter end!

Plant 48, Armwood 17. Plant will finally stop the run and Armwood will be unable to mount a comeback. Look what happened when Armwood tried to throw last year, they got destroyed.

Tampa Bay Tech coach C.C. Culpepper
Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach of the year!
Armwood fans stick to playing dirty and steeling players from other programs. It is all you guys are good for
I know of 27 high school teams in this county pulling for plant tonight.
Nobody likes a classless, no discipling, hoodlem, team with no leadership or direction from any of its coaches

This is going to be a great game. Being a Defensive guy this great game comes down to defense. I truly believe a great defense will always stop a passing team. The reason is Pressure. All great defenses always put pressure on the QB. If Plant have time to throw the ball they can easily win. Passing teams usually make mistakes against great Defenses. Tonight we will see how great Armwood's Defense is

Coach Culpepper is his own biggest fan and his own biggest promoter! I hear his full back is going to Hillsborough next year and the corner is going to middleton. Culpepper was the one in that fight on the sideline and he let his assitant take the fall for him! Everyone knows it, including our Principal some parent has it on tape and then he'll prove it!

Armwood play dirty? Wait, what involved in a fight, on the sideline during a game? eh?

"Coach Culpepper is his own biggest fan and his own biggest promoter! I hear his full back is going to Hillsborough next year and the corner is going to middleton."
It amazes me how one persons opinion could generate such criticism. All Culpepper did was give his opinion on the score only to be drug through the mud. As far as the shutout, Culpepper has nothing to do with the offense, only endorses it. His O.C. threw the ball way to much and the fullback only had 16 carries. The offense was in the red zone 4 times (twice inside the 5 yd line) only to get penalties and turnovers that kept them from scoring. Tech runs a true read triple option and the scheme clearly carried the fullback to his success if he was a true back with better speed he would have had more yds. The corner; well, he certainly underachieved and the team would survive w.o. him. The Bucs got this one right!

can we quit arguin about a team that wont be under the lights tonight a lyle flagg field??? It's gonna be a great matchup and I think we've already seen (earlier this year) that Armwood has the only D in the area capable of hanging with and/or stopping the Plant aerial attack. Bottom Line-It'll be a great game.

38-28 plant. this panthers offense knows how to block now, at least enough for murray to break a couple more records. a good running game can never outscore a monster passing game. GO PLANT

Well, Plant didn't get "better" or at least "better than Armwood!"

They didn't block "better" than last time.
They didn't catch "better" than last time.
They didn't play defense "better" than last time.

Plant, Plant, Plant is obviously and unquestionably the 2nd best team around, unless of course Chamberlain has gotten better, then maybe they are third.

I thought the wood didn't have a chance. Guess Plant didn't have a clue

Culpepper- Where you at now? Watching and wishing! You should be ashamed to talk bad about those who have done so much to help you. The DB's and kids from the wood know your true colors now.

CoachCarus,I want you to know I am truly ashamed to know that what ever transpired while you were on the coaching staff at Armwood has spilled into such bitterness for such a great football program. The coaches can hold their own but you let some kids see your true colors as a leader and an adult whom most looked up to also.Hmmm, talk about discipline,it was in the papers all day, talk about recruiting,Please from a personal view lets not go there.Yeah,The unpredictable and disappointing Bucs, well I guess you are diserving of whatever they have to offer you, take it and run.Guessing you'll be cheering for Booker in the playoffs I hope to see you dressed on Friday in your Halloween colors Orange and Black, they will definately discribe your scary character.Mother of a player you coached at the wood.
