Brandon's Ravenel suspended; awaits FHSAA ruling

The Brandon boys basketball team, one of the county's best, was without one of its biggest pieces Saturday in the Great Florida Shootout in Kissimmee.

Eagles star forward Evan Ravenel, a Boston College commitment, sat out the first of a two-game suspension handed down by coach Mark Hermann. Ravenel said he earned a technical foul after Friday's win over Harmony High for making a comment toward an official.

Hermann said the officials will send their report to the FHSAA, and he said they are awaiting their ruling.

"We'll just wait to hear," Hermann said.

The Eagles (9-3) went 1-2 in the strong holiday showcase, losing to P.K. Yonge and, on Saturday, to Tates Creek (Lexington, Kentucky) on a last second 3-point play. Brandon plays next Feb. 9 vs Freedom.

Stay tuned later for updates on how local teams did in their holiday tournament championships -- including Berkeley Prep in the Kingdom of the Sun and Middleton in the Gulf Coast Tourney.

Ravenel, Hermann, & Brandon just continue to be an undisciplined joke of a program. And to think Boston College actually gave this kid a scholarship - what were they thinking? Hopefully this will be Hermann's last season. The only way I can see him staying is if he lands another recruiting class to rival the misfits he has had the last two seasons. Go Eagles!
