Tampa Bay Christian hoops coach dismissed
First-year Tampa Bay Christian athletic director Chad Goebert has had a roller-coaster rookie year.
Goebert, 25, had to oversee his football program drop from 11-man to 6-man this fall. He had to hire 10 coaches.
And now, he will have to hire another.
Goebert said that boys basketball coach Justin Dargahi has been dismissed after a misunderstanding regarding alleged recruiting violations; Goebert said Dargahi made a joke regarding wanting players from another school, and word got back to Goebert. Goebert said the school came clean with the FHSAA, who told him there would be no other punishment if the school took care of things on their own.
"It was an unfortunate joke," Goebert said. "But the FHSAA doesn't have a sense of humor when it comes to serious situations like recruiting. I definitely didn't play to have to (replace a coach) right now."
Goebert said he will take over for the remainder of the season; the Rams are 4-4.
