Battle begins for Middleton's Jones

The courting of Middleton senior tailback Carlton Jones by colleges may reach another level this week.

Jones, a Toledo commitment, has been pondering this past week an offer he received from Florida State. Middleton coach Harry Hubbard said Jones plans to make a visit to Tallahassee this weekend and make his decision.

That didn't stop Toledo from giving up; Hubbard said Toledo coaches dropped by Tuesday to try to convince him to stick with them. Jones, one of the bay area's top tailbacks, rushed for over 1,200 yards last season.

"They're gonna try to see who's gonna win," Hubbard said.

How come we never hear about any girls getting athletic scholarships on this site?

Because we are less than a week away from signing day....and football tends to get much more interest. Don't worry, we will hear about the ladies, when they are in college and having athletic success. We hear about these boys now because the vast majority of them won't cut it in college and will drift off into the sunset very soon. It is all about the hype right now. Many of these boys will not be cleared by the NCAA, but we don't get to hear about that stuff, which is too bad, not to point out their shortcomings in the classroom, but to point out that it is just hype about most of them, and that their coaches should have stressed academics alongside of their prowess on the field.
