Davis qualified; will sign with Illinois

Zephyrhills shortstop Jessica Davis has academically qualified and is expected to sign a letter of intent with Illinois, Bulldogs coach Craig Milburn said. Davis received a scholarship offer in June after her official visit to campus. But when the early signing period came and went in November, Davis went unsigned because she had yet to qualify. She earned a qualifying score last month and Milburn said will sign this spring.
Davis hit .453 and was tied for the county lead in home runs with seven. She also had 39 hits and 29 RBIs en route to a region quarterfinal berth.
