Rambling wreck land Jesuit star
Phil Smith’s first official visit is the only one he will need to take.
After a weekend trip to Georgia Tech, the standout Jesuit offensive lineman has committed to the Yellow Jackets, according to Gojackets.com. Smith (6-foot-6, 280 pounds) also has scholarship offers from Penn State and FIU. Michigan State, Florida State and USF have all shown interest.
In Smith, the Yellow Jackets are getting a good one, Jesuit coach Joe Ross said.
“He has the size, the work ethic and the desire to get better,” Ross said.
First-year Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson is regarded as being one of the country’s top running game coaches. And Ross thinks that bodes well for Smith, who was an all-county pick at left tackle.
“He is a devastating run blocker,” Ross said. “He gets on someone and finishes the play. And he moves his feet well.”
