Ex-Jesuit/TC coach reaches milestone
Basketball coach Gordon Gibbons, who led both Jesuit and Tampa Catholic to great success, recently earned career victory No. 700. Gibbons, now at Division II Clayton State, has a 704-285 overall mark and is 378-133 in 17 college seasons. He was 264-122 at the high school level and 62-31 as a professional coach.
Gibbons left quite a mark in Tampa.
He went 176-75 with two final four appearances from 1970-1978 at Jesuit, and was 88-47 with one final four trip in five seasons at Tampa Catholic.
"The wins are the result of a lot of hard work by our coaching staffs and players down through the years," said Gibbons, now in his 33 rd season as a head coach. "I've had the opportunity to work with some outstanding administrators over the years that have been very supportive and helpful in our efforts."
Now in his seventh season at Clayton State , Gibbons is 131-67 with the Lakers. Gibbons arguably is best known for a 10-year stint at Florida Southern (1990-2000), where he went 246-65.
