FSU nabs three from Tampa
Who says Florida State doesn't recruit Tampa?
Oh wait, it was us.
In a Times story written by Joe Smith that ran two weeks ago, we reported that some local prep coaches thought the Seminoles' local recruiting efforts weren't up to par. Well, FSU responded today by signing three Tampa products -- Middleton tailback Carlton Jones, Plant offensive tackle Rhonne Sanderson and Hillsborough defensive tackle Moses McCray.
The question is, should Smith get an assist for those signings?
Don't laugh.
Jones' father, Carlton Jones Sr., told me today FSU offered his son a scholarship just hours after the Times story hit newsstands.
Hmmm.

Welcome Carlton. Good job working at getting your grades and test score up. Keep that attitude and you will succeed on and off the field.

Good job coaches. Out recruiting USF in their own backyard.

You might want to give that assist to the Middleton Coaching staff. They got help for Carlton with his academics and brokered this deal. They continued to work on his behalf in order to provide more options to him. They are just a little more modest than others when it comes to the press and air time.

I'm so glad you could help FSU's coaches find this kid. As a fan, I offer my thanks. It's a good thing the coaches read your paper (as soon as it's printed), or we might have missed out on this one! I'm surprised you guys haven't run rivals and scout out of business yet.
