Largo standout ready for 3-point shootout

Largo combo-guard Ben Patrick has just arrived at The Lakeland Center and is relaxing near courtside as he prepares to compete in the state's Class 5A 3-point shootout. The 6-foot-2 sophomore will go up against three other competitors, each of whom reached state by advancing through district and regional competition.

The 5A 3-point champion will compete again Saturday in the state's King-of-the-Hill shootout.

At the district level, Patrick made 10 of 15 shots -- after missing his first five. At regionals, he also made 10.

Patrick averaged 16 points a game this season for the Packers. He shot 46 percent from 3-point range.

"I'm excited," Patrick said. "I think it's going to be fun."
