Sollazzo heading to East Tennessee State
Armwood senior guard Adam Sollazzo, one of the county's top basketball players, has committed to East Tennessee State, the Times has learned.
"I went up there to visit and I got along with the coaches really well," Sollazzo said.
A 6-foot-6 point guard, Sollazzo averaged 22 points and seven assists a game as a senior. He also considered USF, Longwood and Missouri-Kansas City.
"They told me I can come up there and compete (for a starting job) my first year," Sollazzo said.
Sollazzo recently was named the Hillsborough County Player of the Year by the Tampa Bay Basketball Coaches Association. He likely will earn all-state consideration.
"They have a big tradition of winning (at East Tennessee State) ," Sollazzo said. "They win their conference every year and when you do that you play in the NCAA Tournament. And it's always been a dream of mine to play in the big dance."
