The dish on Cooley | Main | Brandon guard has one offer, another coming? »

March 31, 2008

Bay Area Batting Order:

Leadoff: Chamberlain (16-1)
Last week's ranking: 1st
Last week's results: def. Hillsborough 11-2; def. Gaither 5-1; def. Middleton 13-0; lost to Plant 2-1 (8 inns.)
Despite an extra-inning loss to Plant, the Chiefs' body of work so far (i.e. 5-1 win at Gaither, previous win against Plant) keeps them atop our list.

Second: Countryside (16-2)
Last week's ranking: 2nd
Last week's results: def. Alonso 10-0; def. East Lake 6-1
The Cougars are getting it done with their Bache (as in Alyssa) and their bats. Countryside collected 10 hits in that romp against East Lake.

Three-Hole: Land O'Lakes (13-0
)
Last week's ranking: 4th
Last week's results: def. Central 21-2; def. River Ridge 5-3; def. Mitchell 5-4
Coach Jamie Martin's club has defeated all-comers in Pasco County. The bat of senior Michelle Bradley (8 HRs) has more pop than the soda aisle at the new Publix in Connerton.

Cleanup: Plant (17-3)
Last week's ranking: 6th
Last week's results: def. Leto 13-1; def. Chamberlain 2-1 (8 inns.); def. Bloomingdale 9-1; lost to Riverview 4-0; def. Alonso 16-2
Unchallenged early in the season, the Panthers have aced most of their late-season tests. After edging Chamberlain in eight innings, they win the consolation title at the nine-team Jon Sinclair Memorial Spring Fling tournament.

Fifth: Gaither (15-5)
Last week's ranking: 3rd
Last week's results: lost to Chamberlain 5-1; def. King 17-0; lost to Sickles 6-5
Cowboys have dropped three of four, but all three were one-run losses to very good teams (Countryside, Chamberlain, Sickles).

Six-Hole: Durant (17-5)
Last week's ranking: NR
Last week's results: def. Robinson 7-0; def. Riverview 2-0
Cougars have won six in a row, including shutout of resurgent Riverview

Seventh: Newsome (15-5)
Last week's ranking: NR
Last week's results: def. Plant City 10-3; def. Wharton 14-0; def. Freedom 10-0
Wolves have won eight in a row, shutting out five opponents during that span

Eighth: Pasco (17-2)
Last week's ranking: 8th
Last week's results: def. Wesley Chapel 18-0; def. Hernando 12-2; def. Zephyrhills 5-2; def. Springstead 9-1
After a mid-March hiccup (consecutive losses to larger schools), the Pirates have won six in a row

Nine-Hole: Riverview (12-7)
Last week's ranking: NR
Last week's results: lost to Sarasota 6-3; lost to Durant 2-0; def. Armwood 10-0; def. Plant 2-0; def. Sickles 4-0
Granted, the Sharks recently lost five of six, but how can we ignore a team that captures the nine-team Jon Sinclair Memorial Spring Fling tournament, shutting out Plant and Sickles in the process?

On the bench: Pinellas Park, Plant City, Sickles, East Lake, Nature Coast, Palm Harbor University

Comments

East Lake went 11 innings against Pinellas Park Friday night and had to come back Saturday against Countryside. After a rough 1st inning with 4 runs scored, East Lake settled down and only allowed 2 runs the rest of the game. I think they did a great job playing two tough teams within 24 hours.

I totally agree with Mrs.Davis's comment. You have to give the eagles alot of create to come out and fight back with the rough start they had in the beginning of the season with their starting senior pitcher Kim having to sit out because of a injury. I give Hayley Davis a tremendous amount of credit to fill such big shoes!

what about the track super 7 or tennis?

this is visably for "softball rankings" why comment on here about it. Why not email the people directly who post the rankings.

I don't know how Plant City is on the bench with 2 wins against Riverview and Sarasota and one against Durant and East Bay. All tough teams in district. It seems they are always underrated in the polls.

osceola?

Uh...what about Osceola?? Look who they play. No one! Id say the hardest team they have played it East Lake and they lost to them. They dont play Palm Harbor nor Countryside. Wait till they play PPark. Better yet if they were to play Chamberlain or Gaither they would truely see who are the good teams and get spanked. Clearly Osceola should NOT be ranked.
